Maintenance Mechanic I

Job Summary This position repairs and maintains the assigned machinery and mechanical equipment ensuring at all times that the company safety rules are followed. Essential Functions Comply with Westlake Safety Policies and Procedures Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility Perform preventive maintenance operations on machinery according to schedules Install, rebuild and repair a wide variety of machines as directed by the Maintenance Manager/supervisor Service and maintain a limited range of building and production equipment following procedures Analyze, detect, and determine the nature of the problem, provide input on the extent of repairs required, troubleshoot, and select materials needed for the repairs Notify Maintenance Manager of recurring equipment malfunctions and corrective actions taken Assemble, replace or refit parts as warranted Tear down and rebuild presses as needed to repair dies Assist with building repairs Replace and refit parts Instruct and provide technical assistance to lower level mechanics as required Follow and enforce company safety policies and procedures among the maintenance mechanics at all times All other duties as requested or assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Industrial mechanical skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, equipment manuals, and company manuals and procedures Use hand and power tools, welding equipment, drill press, and other related industrial repair equipment Demonstrate manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude Good communication skills and ability to read, speak, write English (bilingual Spanish helpful) Ability to observe, identify, deduce and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions Quick learner and ability to work under minimal supervision Math skills Computer skills Industrial electrical skills preferred Education and/or Experience Associate’s Degree and/or post‑high school technical training highly desired, or equivalent experience 2+ years of related experience required – in a manufacturing environment preferred 2+ years tearing down and rebuilding presses 2+ years experience with tooling and dies Essential Physical Requirements / Work Environment Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or outside Prolong standing or in stationary position Complete repetitive movements Bend and/or twist Lift, move or transport items up to 50 pounds Ability to move or traverse about the facilities Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances in various environmental conditions Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hard‑hat protection) This is not necessarily an all‑inclusive list of job related responsibilities, duties, skills, efforts, requirements or working conditions. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. markets. The pay range is based on relevant market data in our lowest and highest geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, experience, and skillset. Westlake is a total compensation company. Depending on the position offered, sign‑on payments and other forms of compensation may be offered as part of a total compensation package (also to include a full range of medical and other benefits).
