Emerson Tool Company, located in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer/Senior - Design to join our collaborative international team focused on product design and development. In this role, you will contribute to all stages of new product development-from early ideation through production-as well as provide sustaining engineering support for existing product lines. You will work in a hands-on, multi-functional environment that values curiosity, innovation, and learning. Our teams design 3D models, build and evaluate prototypes, and leverage our in-house rapid prototyping and certified UL lab capabilities. Emerson Tool Company proudly manufactures RIDGID® Wet/Dry Vacs, ProTeam® commercial products, and related accessories.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

• Collaborate with product managers, industrial designers, marketing, sales, and operations to define product requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
• Conduct research and development activities to explore emerging technologies and incorporate them into products.
• Conceive ideas, create concepts, and design, prototype, and develop solutions that enhance product performance, quality, and customer value.
• Stay informed on advancements, trends, and competitive products through continuous learning and analysis.
• Support the creation and execution of intellectual property strategies, including contributions to patent applications.
• Establish project budgets, plan staffing needs, and schedule work to meet project timelines efficiently.
• Provide written and verbal project updates while identifying opportunities to improve processes or objectives.
• Identify, analyze, and implement cost-reduction initiatives.
• Support sustaining engineering efforts and partner with operations to resolve product or production issues.
• Monitor prototype builds, laboratory testing, and agency qualification activities throughout product development.

For This Role, You Will Need:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in research, development, or engineering, including work in new product development.
• Experience with 3D modeling, drafting, or CAE tools.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across multi-functional teams and all organizational levels.
• Ability to identify, analyze, and solve engineering challenges using structured problem-solving and documentation methods.
• Comfort using hand tools and full-size power tools during prototyping and testing.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States; Emerson does not offer sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related advanced field.
• 7+ years of engineering experience, with a strong background in new product development.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling/drafting/CAE platforms such as Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Experience in one or more of the following:

- Plastic part manufacturing, including injection molding and extrusion

- Fluid dynamics analysis and simulation

- Finite element analysis and failure analysis

- Acoustic analysis and sound quality optimization

- Testing and refinement of consumer appliances

• Previous design experience in power tools, HVAC equipment, or other consumer products.
• Demonstrated record of product innovation.
