Change Management Consultant (Temporary / Project-Based)
The Change Management Consultant provides expert guidance and hands-on support to plan, execute, and sustain organizational change within a defined project or time frame. You collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, design and implement change strategies, and help ensure that new processes, systems, and ways of working are adopted successfully. This role combines strategic organizational development, practical project execution, and strong stakeholder engagement to drive measurable improvements in performance and effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams and key stakeholders to understand the scope, objectives, and desired outcomes of change initiatives.
- Assess the impact of proposed changes on employees, processes, and systems, and identify areas of risk and opportunity.
- Develop comprehensive change management plans that define strategies, activities, timelines, and measures of success to support smooth transitions.
- Identify and analyze key stakeholders affected by the change, including their needs, concerns, and levels of influence.
- Develop and execute stakeholder engagement strategies to foster support, build buy-in, and address resistance to change.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with stakeholders, providing timely updates and transparent information about the change initiative.
- Design and implement communication plans that ensure consistent messaging across channels throughout the change process.
- Create communication materials such as emails, newsletters, presentations, FAQs, and other resources to support awareness and understanding.
- Coordinate and facilitate training sessions or workshops to equip employees and managers with the skills and knowledge needed to adopt new processes and systems.
- Conduct change impact assessments to identify potential risks, challenges, and areas requiring additional support or intervention.
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies to address resistance, remove barriers, and support successful adoption of change.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of change initiatives, gathering feedback, analyzing results, and making adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with project teams to execute change activities in alignment with the overall project plan and change management strategy.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to employees and leaders during implementation, addressing questions, concerns, and issues as they arise.
- Facilitate change-related meetings, workshops, and focus groups to gather input, build alignment, and reinforce desired behaviors.
- Maintain accurate records of change management activities, including plans, communications, training materials, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Prepare progress reports, status updates, and summaries for project stakeholders and leadership, highlighting achievements, risks, and next steps.
- Evaluate and report on the overall success and impact of change initiatives, including outcomes, adoption levels, and improvement opportunities.
- Assess critical business issues and design organization development tools and interventions to enhance overall company performance.
- Design and implement programs and processes such as coaching, training, organizational design, and process improvement to increase productivity and customer satisfaction.
- Facilitate change management for reengineering and reorganization efforts, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Advise on team design and performance, helping leaders structure and develop teams for optimal effectiveness.
- Provide development coaching and training to managers on leadership skills, change leadership, and organizational effectiveness.
- Deliver and manage assigned projects from design through implementation, working with cross-functional stakeholders to achieve desired results.
- Act as a subject-matter expert and mentor to colleagues, providing guidance and support to other professionals involved in change and organizational development.
- Work with a high degree of autonomy to implement strategic goals and establish operational plans for your area of responsibility.
- Develop solutions to complex and unique issues, improving existing processes and systems using advanced conceptual and analytical skills.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including executive leaders, on significant matters related to change and organizational effectiveness.
- Lead large, moderately complex initiatives of strategic importance, often involving cross-functional teams and broad organizational impact.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in change management, preferably gained in a contractor or consulting capacity.
- Strong understanding of change management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Mastery-level knowledge of change management or organizational development as a specialty area, with working knowledge of several related areas.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, or a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with an advanced degree.
- Demonstrated ability to assess critical business issues and design organization development and strategic plans to enhance performance.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and tailor messages to different audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage, influence, and build trust with stakeholders at all levels, including leadership.
- Ability to adapt to different organizational cultures and navigate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Solid project management skills to plan, execute, and monitor change initiatives within specified timeframes.
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving abilities to identify challenges, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions during change implementation.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy while also collaborating effectively as part of cross-functional project teams.
- Proficiency with change management software, collaboration tools, and other relevant technology platforms.
- Strong facilitation skills for leading workshops, focus groups, training sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
- Ability to coach and develop managers in leadership skills and organizational effectiveness.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Experience designing and implementing organization development programs, including coaching, training, organizational design, and process improvement.
- Experience facilitating reengineering or reorganization efforts and guiding organizations through complex transformation.
- Deep knowledge of project management practices, including planning, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
- Experience mentoring or guiding other professionals in change management or organizational development.
- Experience preparing and delivering briefings to executive leaders on change progress, risks, and outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and improve existing processes and systems using conceptual and strategic thinking.
- Comfort working on large, cross-functional initiatives with significant organizational impact.
Work Environment
This is a remote role that allows you to work from your preferred location while collaborating closely with distributed project teams and stakeholders. You will use digital collaboration and communication tools, change management software, and standard office productivity applications to plan, track, and deliver change initiatives. The work involves frequent virtual meetings, workshops, and presentations with cross-functional teams and leaders. Hours may vary based on project timelines and stakeholder availability, and you may occasionally adjust your schedule to support key milestones or critical activities. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $110.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
