Data Engineer

Our client, a financial services firm in New York, NY, is hiring a Data Engineer to build and run the data pipelines behind its trading, risk, finance and client reporting. You will own data from source systems through to the warehouse, making sure it is accurate, timely and audit-ready.

You will work closely with portfolio managers, risk, operations, finance and analytics teams. Prior experience in financial services is required: you need to understand the data, not just move it.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain batch and streaming pipelines (ETL/ELT) that bring in data from trading, portfolio accounting, custodian, fund administrator and market-data sources.
• Model and manage core financial data: trades, positions, holdings, P&L, pricing, reference/security master and client data.
• Build and optimize the cloud data warehouse
• Put data quality checks, reconciliations and monitoring in place so numbers tie out to source systems.
• Support regulatory, investor and finance reporting with well-documented, auditable data and clear lineage.
• Apply data governance, access controls and security standards to sensitive financial and client information.
• Automate workflows with orchestration tools and CI/CD, and improve pipeline performance and cost.
• Work with business stakeholders to turn reporting and analytics needs into data solutions.
• Troubleshoot production issues and take part in an on-call rotation for critical market-hours pipelines.

Requirements

• Financial services experience (required): 3+ years building data solutions at a bank, asset or wealth manager, hedge fund, private equity firm, broker-dealer, insurer or fintech.
• Working knowledge of financial data such as trades, positions, securities and pricing, accounting or GL data, and the reporting built on them.
• Strong SQL and Python.
• Experience with a cloud data platform
• Experience with orchestration and transformation tools
• Solid grasp of data modeling (dimensional or data vault) and data quality practice.
• Clear communicator who can work directly with non-technical business users.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Math or a related field, or equivalent experience.
