Position Purpose

The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing safe and effective respiratory care as prescribed by a physician. This role emphasizes specialty areas including Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Responsibilities include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, performing patient assessments, and understanding hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

Position-Specific Responsibilities

• Deliver Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy manual.
• Maintain accurate documentation of Respiratory Care procedures.
• Verify physician orders for Respiratory Care.
• Provide clear and complete patient reports, updating information to reflect current clinical status.
• Participate in department meetings, training, and patient care rounds.
• Communicate changes in workload and patient acuity to the supervisor.
• Document daily services and patient charges in the department's computer system.
• Demonstrate expertise with respiratory care instruments and perform troubleshooting.
• Conduct effective airway management and assist in intubation as needed.
• Perform arterial blood gas draws and monitor ventilator patients, making necessary clinical adjustments.
• Complete required ongoing training and education.
• Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols.
• Perform patient charge reconciliation and ensure accurate payroll submissions.
• Assess and address the specific needs of neonatal, pediatric, and geriatric patients.
• Document respiratory assessments and therapeutic interventions effectively.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions).
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Must pass a background check and drug screening (if applicable).
• Must complete an employee health meeting.

Required Education, Licensure, and Certification

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program with CRT credential.
• BLS certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
• NRP certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire).

Experience

• Minimum of one year of respiratory experience in a hospital setting.
• Experience with pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics is preferred.
