Job Description

This role supports a clinic practice by providing high-quality clinical and administrative assistance to patients and providers in a healthcare setting. The Certified Medical Assistant greets and rooms patients, manages patient intake and electronic health records, supports providers during busy clinic schedules, and helps maintain an efficient, organized, and compassionate care environment.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients in a courteous and professional manner and escort them to examination rooms.

• Conduct patient intake, including collecting and documenting relevant medical history and information in the electronic health record.

• Document all patient encounters accurately and completely in the electronic medical record system.

• Prepare examination rooms and triage areas by stocking and organizing medical supplies.

• Monitor inventory levels, perform supply counts, and reorder medical supplies as needed to ensure continuous clinic operations.

• Schedule patient appointments with providers, including residents’ clinics where appropriate, using the practice’s scheduling system.

• Call patients to remind and confirm upcoming appointments and reschedule patients from the bump list when necessary.

• Prepare patient charts for the next clinic day, including creating new charts, filing and pulling existing charts, and ensuring all required documentation is present.

• Verify that referrals and authorizations are in place prior to patient visits to support timely and compliant care.

• Prepare charge tickets and related documentation to support accurate billing processes.

• Collaborate with other medical assistants and providers to support smooth patient flow throughout the day.

• Assist with patient care tasks as appropriate to the scope of a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.

• Support a high-volume clinic by helping manage a steady patient flow in both morning and afternoon sessions.

• Maintain a friendly, outgoing, and professional demeanor to promote a positive patient experience.

• Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations and patient care.

Essential Skills

• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential.

• Ideally 1+ years of experience as a medical assistant.

• Demonstrated experience with medical assisting duties, including patient intake and rooming.

• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).

• Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and navigate clinical software systems.

• Ability to accurately document patient information and clinical encounters in an electronic health record.

• Capability to prepare and organize patient charts, including verifying referrals and authorizations.

• Experience supporting patient scheduling, appointment reminders, and rescheduling processes.

• Strong organizational skills for managing supplies, stocking rooms, and maintaining inventory.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an outgoing and friendly approach to patient care.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 1+ years of clinical experience preferred.

• CPR certification preferred.

• Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple providers and another medical assistant.

• Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and chart preparation.

• Professional, compassionate approach when working with patients in a women’s health setting.

Work Environment

This position operates in a busy outpatient clinic. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role involves supporting a patient flow of approximately 15 patients in the morning and 15 in the afternoon, working alongside 3 to 5 providers and another medical assistant. The clinic uses a electronic medical record system and relies on computer-based scheduling and documentation. The position requires openness to occasional travel, typically less than once per week. Team members wear conservative, solid-color scrubs as standard attire. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
