Job Description
The Logistics Manager oversees the organization’s logistics function and provides direct leadership to a designated group of warehouse operations. This role defines and executes transportation strategy, manages carrier relationships and freight agreements, and optimizes product movement across the network. The primary objective is to consistently meet delivery commitments while effectively controlling total freight spend, ensuring operational performance, and driving process standardization across locations.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the organization’s transportation strategy across modes and lanes to support reliable and cost-effective product movement.
- Own transportation and carrier strategy, including carrier sourcing, contract negotiations, service performance, network design, freight budgeting, and transportation-related KPIs.
- Directly manage carrier relationships, including selection, negotiation, and ongoing performance management, to ensure dependable service across all operating regions.
- Manage freight contracts and rate agreements to secure favorable terms, service levels, and cost efficiency.
- Administer parcel programs and balance cost and service across carriers to support on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Optimize routing to improve transit efficiency, reduce transportation costs, and support consistent delivery performance.
- Own total freight spend and drive cost efficiency across all product movements while maintaining service quality.
- Ensure delivery commitments are met across the network by monitoring performance and addressing issues proactively.
- Drive operational performance of the warehouse operations under your purview, aligning logistics strategy with branch-level execution.
- Standardize shipping processes so practices are consistent across locations, promoting accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Manage freight claims, including filing, resolution, and root-cause reduction, to minimize financial impact and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain and manage carrier scorecards to track, evaluate, and govern carrier performance against defined metrics.
- Maintain reporting on logistics performance, freight spend, and delivery metrics, providing clear visibility into operational results.
- Continuously evaluate the transportation network to identify opportunities for optimization, cost savings, and service improvements.
- Divide time between driving strategic logistics initiatives, supporting regional operations, and maintaining a strong presence within the warehouses and operations under your responsibility.
- Provide field-first, hands-on leadership by regularly engaging with branch teams, observing processes, and supporting continuous improvement efforts in logistics and warehouse operations.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in logistics management with direct accountability for transportation strategy and warehouse operations.
- Strong experience in transportation and logistics strategy, including carrier sourcing, contract negotiation, and service performance management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage carrier relationships, including selection, negotiation, and ongoing performance oversight.
- Experience in freight contract management, including rate agreements and securing favorable terms and service levels.
- Ability to administer parcel programs and balance cost and service across multiple carriers.
- Expertise in routing optimization to improve transit efficiency and reduce transportation costs.
- Proficiency in freight spend management with a focus on cost efficiency across all product movements.
- Track record of ensuring delivery performance and meeting delivery commitments across a logistics network.
- Hands-on experience with warehouse operations, including shipping and receiving, inventory control, and warehouse inventory management.
- Strong skills in logistics reporting, including tracking logistics performance, freight spend, and delivery metrics.
- Capability to develop and maintain carrier scorecards and use performance data to drive improvements.
- Comfort working in a high-mobility, field-first role that requires regular presence across multiple branches and operational sites.
- Competence in data entry and the use of systems or tools to support logistics, inventory, and warehouse operations.

- Experience in logistics, supply chain, transportation, and warehouse management.
- Experience in warehouse operation, including shipping and receiving processes and standardization of shipping practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and inventory control principles within a warehouse environment.
- Ability to support regional operations and collaborate closely with branch teams to align strategy with execution.
- Comfort working in a climate-controlled shop and tool room environment while also traveling to other branches as needed.
- Strong communication skills with a focus on clear, consistent, and accurate information sharing across internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and process consistency in logistics and warehouse operations.

Work Environment
This role is based primarily in a climate-controlled shop and tool room environment that provides a clean, comfortable, and organized workspace. You will work closely with warehouse and logistics operations while benefiting from a stable, indoor setting. The position also requires travel across other branches in the Southeast, supporting a field-first leadership approach and regular in-person engagement with regional operations and teams.
