Youth Activities Attendant (On-Call )

Reports To: Youth Activities Supervisor

Position Summary

The On-Call Youth Activities Attendant will support the Youth Activities Supervisor throughout the new season by assisting with the planning, preparation, and execution of youth events, activities, programs, and open play sessions.

This position is ideal for an energetic, dependable, and child-focused individual who enjoys creating fun, safe, and engaging experiences for children and families. The On-Call Youth Activities Attendant must be flexible and available to work extended hours, particularly during school breaks, holidays, weekends, special events, and peak seasonal periods.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Youth Activities Supervisor to ensure programs run smoothly while maintaining a high standard of safety, supervision, engagement, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Event Operations

• Assist the Youth Activities Supervisor with the setup, execution, and breakdown of youth events, activities, and programs.
• Prepare activity areas, games, crafts, equipment, and supplies before programs begin.
• Assist with special events, holiday programming, camps, themed activities, and open play.
• Help maintain organized, clean, and welcoming activity spaces.
• Support changes to programming based on attendance, weather, schedules, or operational needs.
• Be available for extended shifts during busy periods, including school breaks, holidays, weekends, and special events.

Child Engagement

• Create a fun, welcoming, and positive environment for children of various ages.
• Actively participate in games, crafts, sports, recreational activities, and other youth programming.
• Encourage children to participate while being attentive to individual needs and interests.
• Build positive relationships with children and provide age-appropriate interaction and guidance.

Safety & Supervision

• Maintain active supervision of children at all times and follow established youth program safety procedures.
• Monitor activity areas and identify potential safety hazards.
• Follow all facility policies, emergency procedures, and youth program guidelines.
• Respond appropriately to minor incidents and immediately report concerns or injuries to the appropriate supervisor.
• Ensure equipment and activity areas are used safely and appropriately.
• Maintain awareness of children’s whereabouts and participation throughout activities.

Customer Service

• Provide friendly, professional, and welcoming service to children, parents, members, and guests.
• Answer questions and provide information about youth activities and scheduled programs.
• Assist families with program check-in, activity information, and general questions as directed.
• Represent the Youth Activities department in a positive and professional manner.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding program needs, concerns, and guest feedback.
• Demonstrates patience, tact, and diplomacy when working with children and communicating with parents, families, and other adults.
• Handles sensitive situations with professionalism, respect, and understanding while maintaining positive and supportive relationships.

Team Support

• Work closely with the Youth Activities Supervisor and other team members to deliver high-quality programming.
• Assist with daily preparation, cleanup, inventory, and organization of program materials.
• Support other Youth Activities operations as assigned.
• Maintain a positive and collaborative attitude, especially during busy or high-volume periods.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience working with children in camps, schools, recreation programs, childcare, hospitality, or similar settings preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and interact positively with children of various ages.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Fluent in English required; Spanish preferred.
• Ability to lift and move camp equipment, recreational equipment, and supplies.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
• Must have a flexible schedule and availability to work weekends, holidays, school breaks, and extended hours as needed.
• Reliable transportation to/from Fisher Island or the ability to reliably report to scheduled shifts.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and participate in recreational activities for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and move 25–50 pounds.
• Ability to set up and break down activity areas and move recreational equipment and supplies.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to remain active and attentive for extended periods while supervising children.

Schedule & Availability

This is an on-call position with scheduling based on departmental programming and operational needs. Candidates must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including:

• Weekends
• Holidays
• School breaks
• Seasonal peak periods
• Special events
• Extended or long shifts when needed
• Occasional last-minute or additional shifts based on program needs

The greatest need for availability will occur during children's school breaks, holidays, weekends, and special programming periods.

Work Environment

The position is based on Fisher Island and involves both indoor and outdoor youth programming. The Youth Activities Attendant should be comfortable working in an active recreational environment and interacting professionally with children, families, members, guests, and fellow staff.
