About the Position: The Installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. Duties

Help

  • Serve as Engineering Technician, accomplishing the full range of technical activity required for life-cycle project management.
  • Develop cost estimates to aid in the plan and control of projects.
  • Develop construction plans and specifications for large and small facilities.
  • Analyze the design and construction requirements, extracts pertinent data from a variety of sources.
  • Write specifications which will economically satisfy the design requirements in terms of materials, equipment and construction methods.
  • Design working drawings to translate the accepted concepts into plans which reflect the detailed design of all phases of the project including plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Conduct feasibility studies on various systems, i.e., roofing, walls, flooring, doors, windows and interior and exterior surfaces of structures, to determine the most economical, while maintaining quality.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • You may be required to travel up to 5% for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Note for In-Service Applicants (i.e. current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service): This position is in a one-graded interval series. Experience at the second lower grade level (GS-09) can be credited when there is no position in the normal line of progression that is one grade lower (GS-10) than the position being filled.

Specialized Experience: In-Service Applicants: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in construction improvement projects to include assisting in life-cycle project management to include developing plans, preparing estimates of materials and costs, or coordinating with contractors/suppliers for project completion. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service ( GS-09).

Time in Grade Requirement: Other Applicants: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent ( GS-10).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
