American Trim is seeking experienced Tool & Die Makers to support our metal stamping operations. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing and modifying complex stamping dies and tooling to support safe, efficient production and the manufacture of high-quality products.

Schedule & Pay

2nd Shift: 1:55 PM – 10:00 PM, Monday–Friday

All shifts include overtime as needed. Scheduled hours may flex based on operational needs.

Base Pay: $26.00–$40.00+ per hour, depending on experience
Shift Differential: Additional $1.50 per hour for 2nd shift

Job Summary

The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing and modifying stamping dies and related tooling used throughout manufacturing operations, including progressive dies, cam dies, deep draw dies and transfer dies.

This position performs advanced Tool & Die work requiring precision machining, grinding, measurement, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to maintain tooling performance, minimize production downtime and support the manufacture of high-quality products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain and modify stamping dies, including progressive dies, cam dies, deep draw dies and transfer dies.
  • Set up and operate machine tools used in the Tool Room, performing work requiring a high degree of accuracy and precision.
  • Change internal die components as required to produce different part numbers.
  • Repair, maintain, adjust and sharpen dies, jigs, fixtures and transfer units as required.
  • Diagnose tooling problems and complete repairs and adjustments necessary to return tooling to safe and reliable production operation.
  • Perform routine service and maintenance on Tool Room machinery and equipment, including grinders and other machine tools.
  • Operate machining and grinding equipment, including CNC and/or conversational mills, as applicable.
  • Use a variety of precision measuring instruments to inspect tooling, components and completed work for conformance to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, specifications and other documentation necessary to complete Tool & Die work.
  • Select and properly use coolants, cutting fluids and oils appropriate for the work being performed.
  • Assist with maintaining tooling, parts and supply inventories.
  • Communicate tooling problems, repair status, material needs and supply requirements to supervision and appropriate team members.
  • Follow all required safety standards and procedures, including applicable Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Equipment Safety Analysis (ESA) and Area Safety Analysis (ASA) requirements.
  • Perform work in accordance with applicable environmental requirements and instructions provided by supervision and/or the Environmental group.
  • Clean machine tools and equipment following use and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Participate in housekeeping and continuous improvement activities within the Tool Room and assigned work areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Extensive Tool & Die making experience, with seven years of related experience preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED/equivalent and/or related technical education preferred.
  • Journeyperson certification or equivalent Tool & Die training and experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining stamping dies.
  • Experience with progressive, cam, deep draw and/or transfer dies strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of machine tools, equipment and processes commonly used in a Tool Room environment.
  • Machining and grinding experience required.
  • CNC machining and/or conversational mill experience preferred.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments and maintain close tolerances.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and tooling specifications.
  • CAD and/or programming experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, work instructions and safety requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize work based on production and tooling needs.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

The work environment and physical demands described below are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to:

  • Stand, walk and move throughout the Tool Room and production areas for extended periods of time.
  • Bend, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch and work in various positions necessary to access, inspect and repair tooling and equipment.
  • Work in confined or awkward positions when servicing tooling located within production presses.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a non-repetitive basis.
  • Perform work requiring a high degree of hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, precision and control.
  • Maintain close visual attention when machining, measuring, inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing tooling and components.
  • Work with tools, machinery, dies and components that may have sharp edges or surfaces.
  • Work in a manufacturing/Tool Room environment that may include noise, oils, coolants, metalworking equipment and other conditions associated with industrial operations.
  • Work independently at times and collaboratively with others at other times.
  • Work under time-sensitive conditions when tooling repairs are necessary to restore production equipment to operation.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including eye, hearing, foot and other protective equipment as required.
  • Work overtime and adjusted hours as required by operational needs.

Forklift Certification:

This position requires company forklift certification. Employees must successfully complete a drug screening as part of the initial certification process and any required recertification process, in accordance with company policy.
