Pediatric Infectious Disease Clinic Medical Assistant

Our Pediatric Infectious Disease Clinic is located within the Helen DeVos Children's Care Center at 35 Michigan St. NE, Suite 4150, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. As a highly specialized department, we care for children with complex conditions such as HIV, tuberculosis, bacterial infections, Kawasaki disease, pneumonia, and other infectious diseases.

Our close-knit team includes five providers and two part-time nurses, creating a collaborative environment where every team member plays an important role. The Medical Assistant will partner closely with providers and nursing staff to support patient care through rooming, chart preparation, patient communications, phone management, and other administrative responsibilities.

The clinic works closely with Pediatric Nephrology, Dermatology, and Rheumatology. On slower clinic days, the Medical Assistant may have opportunities to support these departments as needed. Since these specialties report to the same leadership team, cross-department collaboration is common. This position also offers opportunities for professional growth, including involvement with injections, vaccine administration, and procedural support across multiple specialty areas.

Scope of work

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Provider or Registered Nurse (RN) in the examination and treatment of patients to facilitate clinic flow and provide excellent patient care. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and policies; communicate observations to members of the health care team. It will also include rooming patients, collecting vitals, and assisting in minor office procedures. EPIC In basket work. Processing FMLA and short-term Disability work. Answering phones.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent Required
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required within 90 Days
