Public Safety Operations Manager | Full-Time | Miami Beach Convention Center

Position Summary The Public Safety Operations Manager reports to the Director of Public Safety & Transportation and is responsible for delivering high‑quality customer service while maximizing operational efficiency. The role directs leadership, planning, administration, and management of Public Safety & Transportation Department operations, including transportation, loading dock, event logistics, parking, and other operational functions. Responsibilities include supervising staff, coordinating event‑related transportation and logistics, working with internal departments, external stakeholders, and local agencies, ensuring compliance with safety rules and policies, and coordinating event preparation, execution, and demobilization. Salary: $69,000–$79,000 per year. About the Venue The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) welcomes meeting and event planners, exhibitors, and attendees to Miami Beach and Miami. Reimagined following a $640‑million renovation, the MBCC provides a world‑class, state‑of‑the‑art event venue for conferences, conventions, tradeshows, and meetings. The new 800‑room Grand Hyatt Miami Beach is under development and slated to open in late 2027. The LEED Silver certified green building includes a Grand Ballroom, 500,000 square feet of flexible exhibition halls, junior ballrooms, outdoor terraces, 84 breakout rooms, and an onsite parking garage with 800 spots, including disabled, accessible, and electric‑vehicle charging spaces, and bike racks. Responsibilities Emergency Management, Incident Response & Risk Mitigation Ensure communication of operational matters, incident reports, risk concerns, and safety observations to the Director. Review and complete incident reports, ensuring documentation and follow‑through. Assist in responding to emergencies, incidents, demonstrations, protests, fires, storms, medical emergencies, and other situations. Participate in event‑specific risk assessments and operational planning, recommending staffing, transportation, traffic management, emergency access, and public safety support. Support investigations involving injuries, theft, workplace violence, and operational disruptions. Participate in after‑action reviews, tracking corrective actions. Support risk mitigation initiatives, crowd management planning, hazard identification, contractor oversight, emergency access planning, and campus safety improvements. Emergency Preparedness, Life Safety & Regulatory Compliance Maintain working relationships with the Miami Beach Police Department, Miami Beach Fire Rescue, emergency management officials, and other public safety partners. Coordinate and participate in emergency drills, exercises, tabletop exercises, and training programs. Support operation and effectiveness of CCTV, access control, life safety, and security systems. Assist in identifying, documenting, and correcting hazards across the MBCC campus. Support compliance with OSHA, NFPA, Florida Statutes, city ordinances, and MBCC policies related to life safety and emergency preparedness. Operational Leadership & Cross‑Functional Support Serve as a cross‑functional leader within the department and provide support across security, transportation, emergency preparedness, event logistics, and special projects. Coordinate with internal departments, contractors, vendors, and external stakeholders to ensure services are delivered effectively and in accordance with policies. Business Operations, Vendor & Financial Management Support administration and oversight of vendor invoices, billing discrepancies, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Manage waste‑management operations, including vendor coordination and issue resolution. Support sustainability initiatives and programs. Assist with review, tracking, and reconciliation of departmental expenditures. Supervisor Responsibilities Manage the work of assigned personnel, contractors, vendors, and partners across the department. Plan, assign, and direct work, conduct performance assessments, engage employees, coach, discipline, and resolve problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; address complaints and resolve problems. Qualifications Education & Professional Experience Some college coursework is preferred; relevant experience may substitute. 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in public safety, transportation operations, loading dock operations, event logistics, or related environments. Experience in a convention center, stadium, arena, or similar venue in a leadership or supervisory capacity is highly desirable. Public Safety, Transportation & Venue Operations Working knowledge of public safety operations, emergency preparedness, transportation planning, loading dock management, traffic flow, parking operations, and event logistics at a large venue. Experience coordinating with law enforcement, fire rescue, emergency management agencies, show organizers, municipal transportation departments, and contractors. Experience coordinating complex event logistics involving commercial vehicle access, exhibitor move‑in/move‑out operations, valet services, traffic management, and cross‑functional partners. Experience in a unionized environment and knowledge of relevant regulations. Leadership & Professional Competencies Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations. Excellent leadership skills. Good conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of facility management, public safety operations, venue services, and operational equipment. Skills And Abilities Bonus: Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) is highly preferred. Strong customer service skills and composure in high‑pressure situations. Ability to interact effectively with team members at all levels, including executives, clients, contractors, vendors, and public safety agencies. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments, projects, and operational priorities with speed. Ability to read, interpret, and apply contracts, policies, and procedures related to transportation, parking, public safety, and venue operations. Ability to work long and irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Professional presentation, appearance, and work ethic. Technology Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint). Preferred knowledge of event and venue management software, incident reporting systems, security technology platforms, and Adobe Acrobat. Proficiency using collaboration and workflow tools to drive communication and accountability. Ability to leverage emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance operations. Certifications and Licenses Valid Florida Class D Security License required. Valid Florida Driver License with acceptable driving record required. OSHA 30‑Hour General Industry Certification preferred. CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred. IAVM Crowd Management Certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable period required. Physical Demands Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move heavy objects. Must perform prolonged walking, standing, reaching, bending, kneeling, and lifting. Work Conditions Comfortable working indoors and outdoors with mild to moderate exposure to environmental conditions. Ability to climb stairs and ladders; walk extended distances to access all areas.
