Senior Accounting Analyst

Job TitleContributes to a strong team environment. Performs other duties and ad hoc assignments to support the department. Supports commitment to a culture of safe work practices. Participates in month-end close by recording journal entries for segment activity and accruals. Analyzes results in comparison to budget and prior periods and provides variance explanations to Management. Prepares account reconciliations and performs SOX controls to ensure accurate financial reporting. Compiles specific information for the Company's SEC financial statement disclosures. Provides support for both internal and external audits. Assist with regulatory filings as needed. Gas Reserves accounting Manages the monthly gas reserves accounting process, working regularly with a joint venture partner to obtain and record relevant transactions. Supports annual audit of the investment. Supports an annual reserve study and incorporates study results in annual forecasts. Prepares materials for monthly Management and quarterly Subsidiary Board Meetings. North Mist Gas Storage Facility accounting Prepares monthly reporting package for Management. This includes reviewing information from multiple departments and interpreting results. Works closely with the Rates team to develop annual forecast of future costs.RequirementsBachelor's degree with an emphasis in Accounting and CPA certificate are requiredMinimum of 5 years of applied accounting experience. Public accounting experience is preferredStrong technical knowledge of US GAAP, with the ability to critically think and apply that knowledge to business requirementsExperience in utility industry or related business environment is preferredExperience using SAP or another general ledger or other financial software system is strongly preferredExperience with reconciliation tool, Blackline preferredDemonstrated background in applying analytical/accounting research skillsExcellent verbal skills, including the ability to apply group facilitation techniques and make group presentationsStrong written communication skills including with process and task documentation and report generationProven ability to meet deadlines, including strong time management and organizational skillsMust combine attention to detail with the ability to envision the big pictureStrong analytical skills with a focus on technical accounting rules and experience researching accounting issuesPC Skills primarily for word processing, spreadsheet and database applicationsAbility to facilitate and coordinate projectsProven ability to function in a team environment
