Job Description Position Title: Custodial Services – Lead Night Custodian Job Code: xxFCSRV607 Schedule / Grade: Custodian / Grade 3 FLSA: Non-exempt Calendar: HRLY-WH Benefits Eligible: After 60 days wait period (Retirees not eligible) Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $17.35 to $22.56 per hour Purpose This position is responsible for inspecting the cleaning performance of nightly duties, supervising and leading custodial employees on set‑up for special events or cleaning projects. The position trains new and existing employees regularly and secures the building at night. Working Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm–11:30 pm, with a 30‑minute lunch break. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Work as a supervisor of a cleaning crew. Maintain limited interaction with office personnel and building users. Secure the building. Assist with monitoring and operating heating and air conditioning systems. Set up / take down tables, chairs, etc., for school functions and other special events. Perform activities necessary for keeping the buildings open, comfortable, and safe. Interact with teachers, staff, and students courteously. Be available for extra hours to meet building requirements. Identify and report building repair/maintenance needs. Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District. Qualifications Minimum: Must be able to follow written and oral instructions; One (1) year custodial experience with CPS, or equivalent; knowledge of carpet, tile, and concrete floor maintenance; knowledge of restrooms, shower, and locker room cleaning and maintenance; knowledge of cleaning agents and materials; general knowledge of cleaning and servicing of custodial equipment; general knowledge of heating and air conditioning units; must be able to bend, twist, squat, climb and lift 50–60 pounds. Preferred: High School diploma. Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast‑paced environment. ADA Requirements Language: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, training manuals, and instructions; communicate direction and instruction to custodial staff, both verbally and in writing; prepare written reports; speak one‑on‑one and in small groups. Computation: Perform basic mathematical calculations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning: Interpret and execute a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form. Technology: Basic computer skills. Other Skills: Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills; present a positive image to staff, faculty, administrators, students, and community. Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand, move about, hear and speak; must have close, moderate, and distance vision; must continuously use hand and finger strength to grasp tools and climb ladders; must communicate in noisy environments; must frequently stoop, squat, reach, climb, bend, kneel, push/pull objects; lift or move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance essential; must be available for emergency clean‑up or maintenance outside regular hours. Conditions and Environment: Exposure to bright/dim light; dusts and pollen; extreme heat and/or cold; wet/humid conditions; fumes and/or noxious odors; chemical cleaners/solvents, moving machinery; electrical shock; body fluids/pathogens; works indoors mostly and occasionally outdoors; requires visual acuity, hearing and speaking.
