The Porter is expected to maintain the appearance of the building clean and orderly and generally serving the residents. The Porter reports directly to the Facility Manager regarding all janitorial and facility related issues; immediately reports any major building repairs, hazards, defects and/or supply needs to the Facility Manager. Bathroom-cleaning sinks, showers, and toilets. Kitchen/Serving Area-cleaning sinks and counters; cleaning small appliances and serving utensils or serving equipment, including the steam table and cart. Bag trash after meals. Dining Room-washing off tables, sweeping and mopping. Clean entrance of building, hose sidewalk and entrance when is required. Remove ice and snow when required, remove garbage debris to proper areas. Wash out trashcans and replace liners. Work in the laundry room; filling and removing resident’s laundry from the washer and dryer, folding and arranging laundry as requested. Serve meals to residents on the respective shift he/she is working with. Work in the clothing room and distribute clothing to the residents. The Porter cleans all public areas, and workspaces as assigned. The Porter completes all work orders assigned. The Porter cleans and maintains floors (strip, wax, buff, mop and/or vacuum) as assigned. The Porter paints and makes minor repairs of the facility and facility property as assigned. The Porter assists with ground clean ups and snow removals as assigned as assigned. The Porter stores and retrieves deliveries and supplies as assigned. The Porter assists in any special projects, as assigned. The Porter takes responsibility for proper care and maintenance of tools, supplies, and equipment being used in the performance of duties. The Porter drives agency vehicles as needed. Accurately tracks all mileage within van logbook. The Porter retrieves and/or delivers interoffice mail to DHS and DHQ as needed. The Porter maintains a safe and sanitary workspace and follows all the OSHA regulations. To continue to run each of our shelters with excellence and to meet the needs of the program, employees may be asked to assume their same position at one of our other shelters operated by the Salvation Army at the discretion of the Operations Coordinator for Shelters or Salvation Army Department Heads. Other assignments and tasks may be added at the discretion of the Operations Coordinator for Shelters or Salvation Army Department Heads. Is willing to make an extra effort to help build a quality and caring shelter/program. Must be able to work comfortably within a difficult population. Life experience along with food certificate can substitute for high school diploma.
