Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse - Oncology Nurse Navigator requiring an active DC RN license and oncology nursing experience for a day-shift radiation oncology role.

Details

• Radiation Oncology setting supporting a Nurse Navigator role
• Patients report Monday through Friday for radiation therapy
• Primary diagnosis population is oncology patients
• Day shift schedule, 5x8-hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• Office duties include chart preparation, disability form completion, pharmacy calls, and telephone triage
• Charting completed in Cerner

Requirements

• Active DC RN license required in hand
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required within the last 7 years
• Must have completed at least 1 previous travel assignment
• Cerner charting system experience required
• Experience with care and management of ports, central/implanted line care, and starting IVs on adults required
• Experience managing oncologic emergencies including acute tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression required
• Experience with neutropenic precautions and tracheostomy care/management required
• Experience with external radiation therapy (teletherapy) and radiation safety precautions required
• Experience managing symptoms such as altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy required
• Wound care experience required
• Nurse navigator or nurse coordinator experience preferred
• Oncology and radiation oncology experience preferred
• Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including education, skincare/wound care, and assessment of radiation toxicity
• Assess patients for signs or symptoms of concern and consult with attending physicians, residents, or emergency services as needed
• Address patients' social needs as part of holistic care
• Flu vaccine required for all employees at this facility
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment
• RTO limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract and must be submitted with initial application
• Local candidates within 60 miles are accepted at a lower rate
• Previous MedStar employees must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
