Medication Tech

The primary role of the Medication Tech is to administer medications and provide direct care to residents.

Candidates should hold an active Certificate as a Medication Tech/Aide with the state of Utah.

Responsibilities include:

• Passing medications according to physician orders, delegated by and under the supervision of a licensed nurse and in accordance with facility policy.
• Administering accurately and timely.
• Recording medications administered in the resident's record.
• Notifying the pharmacy (or family when applicable) when medications need to be refilled.
• Maintaining a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.
• Monitoring and reporting any/all side effects of medications to the Director of Health Services.
• Obtaining/providing shift report. Recording sufficient information related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders.
• Following comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident's needs and their comprehensive assessment as assigned.
• Assisting with medical appointments, communicating with healthcare providers, and advocating for the residents' needs.
• Observing residents for changes in health, reporting concerns to medical professionals, and monitoring vital signs.
• Documenting information pertaining to changes in residents' status, personal needs, and communications with outside providers in the electronic medical record.
• Completing accident and incident reports in a timely manner and according to facility policy.
• Performing delegated nursing services as assigned by the RN.
• Participating in in-service education programs as assigned.
• Promptly reporting changes in resident conditions to the Director of Health Services.
• Following written and oral directions.
• Performing all duties assigned in an effective, cooperative, timely and professional manner.
• Being responsible for the safety of residents under their supervision.
• Working cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies, and ancillary service providers.
• Assisting new employees in following established facility policies and procedures.
• Maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information.
• Performing other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor.
