We are seeking an intern to help us apply information processing, machine learning, deep learning, and signal processing to transform raw sensor data into meaningful information for our nation’s warfighters. As examples, you may work with a mentor to develop algorithms to process active and passive sonar returns to find submarines or use signal processing and deep learning with imaging sonar to identify sea bottom‑mounted mines. Work with raw and processed sensor data to find hidden patterns and weak signals, identify characteristics, and exploit those characteristics with novel algorithms. Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Physics or related field. Are skilled in or have working knowledge of a programming language such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++. Have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in small project teams. Are curious about signal processing, machine learning, deep learning, or artificial intelligence. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked.
