Safety Compliance Manager

About the Role This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands-on, varied position and wants to make a meaningful impact in a small-medium company environment. The successful candidate will work closely with management and employees across the company and will be responsible for keeping our Safety and DOT programs organized, current, and effective. Safety and DOT compliance will be the primary focus of this position (60-70% safety/DOT), with additional HR responsibilities (30-40% HR) as necessary. Responsibilities Safety & Compliance Coordinate and maintain the company's overall safety. Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and identify potential hazards. Work with management and employees to correct safety concerns. Maintain safety policies, procedures, training records, and required documentation. Coordinate employee safety training, including new-hire and ongoing training. Assist with accident, injury, and incident investigations and documentation. Help develop and maintain safety procedures and preventive maintenance, trucking, maintenance, and other company activities. Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization. Monitor compliance with OSHA requirements and applicable state and federal regulations. Coordinate safety meetings and maintain records of attendance and training. Work with insurance carriers, workers' compensation representatives, and outside safety professionals as needed. DOT / Trucking Compliance Maintain driver qualification files and required DOT documentation. Monitor CDL, medical card, MVR, drug and alcohol testing, and other driver qualification requirements. Maintain required vehicle inspection, maintenance, and compliance records. Assist with DOT audits and respond to compliance issues. Stay current on applicable FMCSA and DOT requirements. Human Resources Assist with recruiting, and onboarding new employees. Coordinate new-hire paperwork and employee files. Assist with employee orientation and training. Maintain accurate personnel records and HR documentation. Assist with employee benefits administration and employee questions. Track attendance, vacation/PTO, and other employee records. Assist management with employee relations and performance documentation. Help administer company policies and procedures. Assist with workers' compensation claims and return-to-work documentation. Support management with various HR projects and administrative responsibilities. Maintain confidentiality of employee information. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively. Required Skills Experience in workplace safety, DOT compliance, HR, or a combination of these areas. Strong attention to detail, organizational and recordkeeping skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization. The ability to identify problems and follow through until they are resolved. The ability to maintain confidential information. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications. A willingness to be hands-on and spend time in the field rather than working exclusively behind a desk. A degree in a Safety or HR related field, or 2 years' experience in a safety position. Preferred Skills Experience with OSHA compliance. Experience with FMCSA/DOT regulations. HR experience in a small or mid-sized company. Experience in trucking, manufacturing, construction, or another industrial environment. SHRM, HRCI, OSHA, or other safety/HR certification is a plus.
