You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN at the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department, PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF Detachment Guam.

Duties

Help

  • You will layout, connect and disconnect temporary electric power lines from dock power supply to ship's shore power terminals.
  • You will lay out, make temporary installations, connect and disconnect Shipyard provided temporary lighting circuits and various blower, pump and other accessory electrical equipment circuits.
  • You will install and remove temporary ventilation systems and address electrical Grade "A" pure water production and delivery issues.
  • You will lay out, connect, maintain and disconnect electrical cables and power supplies.
  • You will produce and deliver Pure Water.
  • You will operate and perform maintenance on electrical equipment associated with the Shipyard drydocks and marine railways.
  • You will use trade related tools to test volts, ohms, and safety of electrical components.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Must successfully complete all necessary radiological, nuclear and non-nuclear training and requirements.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position requires satisfactory completion of a pre-employment as a condition of

    employment. Incumbent must therefore meet and maintain requirements specified on Preemployment

  • Incumbent may be expected to travel and must be able to obtain a government issued passport.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.


Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSPECT - laying out, connecting and disconnecting temporary power cables from Ship's shore power terminal to dockside power supply sources; determining Ship's power requirements; making temporary layouts and installations of main power supply circuits, ship grounding circuits, fire alarm systems, temporary power distribution panels of circuit breakers, step-down transformers and large mobile industrial equipment operating circuits; operating and performing maintenance on electrical equipment associated with the Shipyard drydocks and marine railways.

Guam is designated as a medically underserved area. Military medical facilities offer space-available primary and limited specialty medical care; however, services are not guaranteed.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees.

Frequently handle objects weighing up to 44 pounds and occasionally, heavy exertion is required. Work requires frequent sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, climbing, cramped and awkward positions. Other physical requirements include visual acuity color vision, depth perception, close hand- eye or hand-eye-foot coordination, finger dexterity and keen hearing.

Performs work indoors and outdoors exposing them to the prevailing weather conditions, noise, and intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. Occasionally, work is performed in cramped areas, close confined spaces of ships and submarines with minimum light and ventilation. They are regularly exposed to moving objects, elevations, and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. They are also exposed to the possibility of an electric shock when working on wet surfaces. Serious injury from slipping and falling may occur while working in the dry dock, uneven surfaces, and from ladders and staging. Dirt, grease, dampness, and chemical fumes are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats are used.

The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include but are not limited to fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non- ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. The shipyard maintains personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations to ensure employee safety and health. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations.
