Substitute Bus Driver

Vicksburg Community Schools, a premier K-12 public school district in southern Kalamazoo County, is seeking dependable and safety-minded individuals to join our transportation team as School Bus Drivers. Our District serves over 2,600 students in one high school, an alternative high school, one middle school, and three elementary schools and employs approximately 160 teachers and 200 other employees to meet the needs of our students. This position is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, field trips, and extracurricular events. No prior experience? No problem — we will provide training and certification for the right candidate. This is a health-benefits-eligible position with competitive pay and a consistent schedule aligned with the school calendar. Key Responsibilities: Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes and maintain adherence to time schedules. Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers during transport. Perform required daily pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections. Report any mechanical concerns or safety issues to the Transportation Mechanic. Enforce student behavior expectations in accordance with district policy. Maintain accurate records, including route logs and incident reports. Assist students as needed, including those with special needs. Attend all mandatory safety meetings, in-service training, and certification courses. Qualifications: Required: Must be at least 21 years old. Valid Michigan driver’s license with a clean driving record. Ability to pass DOT physical, drug/alcohol screening, and background check. Ability to complete and maintain required training, including obtaining a CDL Class B with P and S endorsements (paid training provided). Preferred: Valid CDL with P and S endorsements. Previous experience driving a school bus or commercial vehicle. Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting. Working Conditions: Split shift (morning and afternoon routes) with possibility of mid-day or extra duty hours. Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
