Executive Director
jobgether
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Executive Director based in the United States.
This is a senior leadership opportunity to guide a mission-driven nonprofit focused on connection, care, advocacy, and direct support for transgender and gender-nonconforming communities.
The Executive Director will provide strategic direction while overseeing programs, operations, fundraising, communications, and organizational development.
You will work closely with the Board of Directors and Leadership Team to strengthen organizational effectiveness, sustainability, and impact.
The role combines visionary leadership with hands-on relationship building across donors, partners, volunteers, staff, and community stakeholders.
You will serve as a prominent public representative, helping shape conversations around peer support, crisis intervention, and community-centered services.
Success will require strong emotional intelligence, inclusive leadership, financial stewardship, and the ability to navigate complex organizational and social issues with care.
This is an opportunity for an experienced nonprofit leader to help expand a growing organization while remaining deeply connected to the communities it serves.
Accountabilities
- Provide strategic leadership and guide the development, execution, and evaluation of organizational plans, priorities, and long-term goals.
- Lead, support, and supervise the Leadership Team while fostering a culture centered on trust, accountability, curiosity, collaboration, and open communication.
- Build strong relationships with the Board of Directors, supporting governance, annual goals, board development, recruitment, training, and organizational ambassadorship.
- Oversee the development, management, and evaluation of programs, ensuring services remain sustainable, effective, aligned with community needs, and consistent with organizational capacity.
- Strengthen the organization’s commitment to serving diverse communities, including advancing meaningful support for Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities.
- Provide strategic oversight of fundraising activities, strengthen relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and other funders, and support major gift development and board recruitment.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and public representative, supporting media engagement, public speaking, communications, marketing, and positioning efforts.
- Oversee relationships with key local and national media stakeholders and ensure organizational vision is consistently reflected in communications and storytelling.
- Provide leadership over administration and operations, ensuring strong financial management, accessible financial reporting, appropriate resource allocation, and effective organizational policies.
- Partner with People & Culture and Finance teams on staffing structures, performance management, compensation, benefits, employment policies, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with volunteers, donors, community leaders, partner organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen the organization's reach and impact.
- Support a sustainable remote-work environment and promote effective decision-making that balances immediate priorities with long-term organizational goals.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of senior leadership experience within a service-providing organization, with demonstrated success in strategic planning, fundraising, communications, and organizational development.
- Proven experience managing and developing staff, including the ability to lead teams with empathy, accountability, clarity, and strong interpersonal judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain productive relationships with donors, partners, community stakeholders, and other external constituencies.
- Experience with financial management, budgeting, resource allocation, and organizational stewardship.
- Background in direct-service crisis intervention, mental health, social services, or a related service-oriented environment.
- Strong understanding of current and historical issues affecting transgender and gender-nonconforming communities and their intersection with community services and advocacy.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent complex issues clearly, persuasively, and authentically to diverse audiences.
- High emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, adaptability, accountability, constructive conflict management, and the ability to lead through change.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and working effectively across differences in race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, and other dimensions of identity.
- Strong storytelling and relationship-building abilities, with the confidence to serve as a public-facing organizational leader.
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment while managing multiple priorities and maintaining strong communication across distributed teams.
- Proficiency with, or willingness to quickly learn, tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, CRM and fundraising platforms, QuickBooks, and Bill.com.
- A deep commitment to the organization’s mission and values, alongside the ability to lead with compassion, curiosity, integrity, and accountability.
- Candidates who meet most, but not necessarily every, listed qualification are encouraged to apply when they bring relevant experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Benefits
- Fully remote position open to candidates located in the United States.
- Approximately 10 work-related trips per year, with all travel expenses covered.
- Opportunity to lead a mission-driven organization providing direct support and advocacy for transgender and gender-nonconforming communities.
- High-impact executive leadership role with significant influence over organizational strategy, programs, fundraising, communications, and culture.
- Collaborative environment focused on inclusion, accountability, community connection, and organizational growth.
- Opportunity to work closely with a dedicated Leadership Team, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
- Supportive workplace culture that values diverse lived experiences and perspectives.
