Job Overview The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Group Supervisor 2 position located at the Summit View Youth Center (SVYC) in Las Vegas, NV. SVYC is a 48‑bed staff secure facility for male youth ages 14 to 20. The role involves guiding youthful offenders toward pro‑social behaviors, providing coaching and counseling, managing behaviors, and creating a safe environment for youth. All Group Supervisors must work holidays, evenings, weekends, and overtime as established by policy. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. Responsibilities Group Supervisors perform duties including the education, employment, training, treatment, care and custody of juvenile offenders residing within a state youth training center; manage comprehensive records of assigned youths’ program activities; and provide individual guidance pursuant to state or federal laws and regulations. Supervise the activities of youths within an assigned unit; directly observe work habits, social behavior, and attitude to ensure conduct meets established rules and regulations of the institution; provide assistance and direction to youths in the performance of assignments, acceptable behavior, proper dress and personal hygiene; participate as a member of a treatment team to implement a treatment plan; and document progress or problems in youths’ development. Conduct intake interviews; review case history files and complete required intake forms concerning personal and medical history and family data; interview youths and document personality traits and functioning levels; supply immediate needs such as clothing, supplies and room assignment; orient and instruct youths in unit rules and regulations; conduct physical searches for unauthorized articles and contraband. Perform security checks of assigned unit to ensure the safety and security of residents and the facility; conduct head counts and room and body searches; check locks on windows and doors; secure the location of residents to prevent escape and detect the presence of controlled substances, contraband or weapons; document actions and inform supervisors of abnormalities. Respond to emergency situations such as searching for runaway youths and providing first aid; implement appropriate verbal, behavioral or physical interventions to control aggressive or violent behaviors; notify appropriate personnel of actions taken and document as required. Maintain individual case records; complete incident reports, chronological reports, accountability lists, off‑ground reports, personal account logs, money withdrawal requests and clothing file sheets for review by unit staff and supervisors. Instruct youths in life, educational and vocational skills; provide vocational and pre‑employment training in various areas such as fire suppression, culinary processes, laundry work and first‑aid procedures; assist youths with homework; monitor, evaluate and report youths’ progress. Participate in activities and act as a role model; officiate at events; provide individual or team instruction; set up equipment; arrange transportation as required; coordinate schedules with facility programs and security needs. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice or a closely related field and one year of experience coordinating or supervising work in a custodial, employment, therapeutic, educational, recreational program or correctional setting;
• OR high school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience with the public, of which one year involved coordination or supervision in the same settings;
• OR one year as a Group Supervisor I in Nevada State service;
• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Knowledge & Abilities General Knowledge of: security techniques, institutional rules and policies, health and safety guidelines for juvenile justice facilities, interviewing techniques, non‑violent crisis intervention, behavior modification, anger management, treatment team concepts, and relevant state laws. Ability to: create a stimulating learning environment; maintain professionalism amid resistance or hostility; negotiate and collaborate to reach decisions; identify youth personality traits; establish professional boundaries; write clear observational reports; persuade others; prioritize assignments; analyze situations and act per policy; read legal documents; attend training and demonstrate proficiency in training, treatment, care, and supervision of juvenile offenders. #J-18808-Ljbffr State of Nevada (NV)
