Registered Nurse (RN) - Stroke/Neuro PCUThe Registered Nurse in the Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU) will provide specialized care for stroke and neurological patients, while also managing general medicine overflow. This is a dynamic role requiring expertise in telemetry and neuro care, with an emphasis on critical thinking and patient management.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in the PCU environment.Monitor patient conditions through telemetry and manage cardiac drips without titration.Conduct advanced assessments and implement appropriate nursing interventions.Administer medications, blood products, and IV therapies.Perform central and peripheral line care.Provide non-invasive airway management and respiratory support.Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy.Participate in rapid response and emergency procedures.Support a patient-centric approach within a fast-paced environment, maintaining awareness of isolation precautions.Occasionally float to other PCU or medical-surgical units as needed.RequirementsCurrent RN license in Virginia or a compact state.Minimum of 1 year of neuro PCU experience, preferably in a facility with 250+ beds.EPIC charting experience is required.Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS are preferred.Proficient in cardiac monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.Must be skilled in interventions, including IV therapy and central line management.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to changing clinical situations.Work ScheduleNight shifts (3x12-hour) from 18:45 to 07:15.Weekend coverage every other week, with a requirement of 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block.Orientation hours: 32 hours.Patient Care EnvironmentDaily census of 25 patients with an average patient ratio of 1:5.Support for isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU and step-down units.Collaboration within a large team to prioritize patient care and meet individual patient needs.Patient PopulationCaring for adults and geriatric patients with a variety of neurological conditions.Management of complex care for stroke and neuroscience patients following established protocols.Special Procedures and EquipmentInvolvement in procedures such as chest tube management and tracheostomy care.Utilization of telemetry systems with remote monitoring capabilities.This position is situated within a high-acuity PCU providing advanced care to stroke and neuro patients. The role requires a blend of clinical expertise, critical thinking, and compassionate patient interaction.
