Registered Nurse - Community Living Center

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications English Language Proficiency: Proficient in basic written and spoken English (per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f)). Graduate of an approved professional nursing school accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). OR individuals attending a master’s level bridge program in nursing with coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree may become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achieving a state license, the individual may be appointed on a temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program (Reference VA Handbook 5005 – Appendix G6). OR graduates of foreign professional nursing schools who possess a current full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduate professional nurse appointment. Foreign nursing education exceeding an associate degree or entry‑level requires formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who meet basic education requirements but lack licensure may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120‑day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case‑by‑case basis). Grade Determinations: The following Scope – Education and Dimension criteria must be met to determine grade assignment: Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence‑Based Practice/Research. Grade/Level Scope Education for Nurse I – Level I: Provides fundamental knowledge‑based care. Grade/Level Scope Education for Nurse I – Level II: Demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts with technical competency. Grade/Level Scope Education for Nurse I – Level III: Demonstrates proficiency in planning and self‑directed goal setting for complex client situations. Grade/Level Scope Education for Nurse II: Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care. Grade/Level Scope Education for Nurse III: Executes responsibilities demonstrating leadership, experience, and creative approaches to complex client care. Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, keen hearing, manual dexterity, and clear speech; potential for long periods of walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and bending; light lifting and carrying may be required; ability to demonstrate nursing procedures requiring technical skills. Reference: For more information on this qualification standard – please visit Duties Provide competent, evidence‑based care to assigned residents and oversee licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants, as appropriate. Assist in directing nursing education, orientation, and competencies; provide quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with interdisciplinary teams. Provide peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Foster a safe and supportive environment conducive to professional development of healthcare professionals. Contribute professional nursing perspective in interdisciplinary team discussions. Partner with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Support colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Share educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Question clinical practices to provide evidence‑based care. Participate in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence‑based practice culture. Collaborate with the Minimum Data Set (MDS) coordinator to ensure documentation is accurate and reflective of the Resource Utilization Group (RUG) score. Paid Time Off: 50 days per year (26 days annual leave – 13 days sick leave – 11 paid federal holidays). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% contribution by VA. Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care (many federal programs carry into retirement). Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory. Work Schedule: Tour formatted during interview; multiple tours available. EDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply for incentive.
