Friend to Friend’s Mission:
Friend to Friend is a nonprofit, crisis service agency located in Carthage, North Carolina. Our mission is to help survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking rebuild their lives. We operate an advocacy center, an emergency shelter, and a 24/7 crisis-line. Services we offer include shelter, 24-hour crisis-line, court advocacy, clinical counseling, support groups, hospital accompaniment, community education, and outreach.
This Position:
The Licensed Mental Health Therapist is a part-time, 12-16 hours-per-week position that reports directly to the Director of Counseling & Housing. The Therapist is responsible for providing counseling services to non-shelter clients at the Advocacy Office, to include assessment, treatment planning, treatment and referrals. They may also be responsible for planning, developing, and providing support groups to non-shelter clients at the Advocacy Office and in the community. This position may also provide mental health support to current shelter clients at our Serenity House if needed.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide trauma-informed, short-term counseling in both individual and group formats.
Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, and develop appropriate treatment plans to support client needs.
Provide assistance and referrals to other agency or community services as needed to support client success.
Maintain required documentation and accurate monthly statistical reporting, while protecting client confidentiality.
Develop and lead support groups for domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking clients in the community.
Assist in answering the Advocacy Office crisis line and general phone lines.
Help greet & welcome Advocacy Office clients when court advocates are busy.
Attend staff meetings.
Participate in continuing education as required.
Abide by all policies and procedures within the F2F handbook and staff manual.
Be a positive ambassador for Friend to Friend in the community and among staff, volunteers, board, and leadership.
Perform other duties, as assigned by Director of Counseling & Housing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field
Active license (full or provisional) to practice mental health counseling in the state of North Carolina. NOTE: If provisionally licensed, must be able to provide proof of a qualified supervisor who meets minimum requirements of the relevant state licensing board. On-site supervision may be negotiable.
Ability to maintain positive working relationships with Executive Director, co-workers, city personnel, faith-based agencies, and public.
Ability to model exemplary professional behavior in team building by respecting personal boundaries and refraining from discussing or commenting on fellow employees.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and confidential boundaries among staff, co-workers, city personnel, and public.
Ability to self-motivate and self-monitor, in order to submit reports and projects on time.
Capacity to adapt and reorder priorities and/or work plans, when necessary.
Be a team player, multi-tasker, and adaptive co-worker, accommodating to the changing needs that arise in a crisis intervention environment.
Ability to meet deadlines, report completed tasks, and take direction from the Executive Director.
Ability to set and meet goals.
Ability to use office information systems and spreadsheets to monitor client records.
Ability to work with people from all walks of life in a non-judgmental manner.
Have knowledge of DV/SA/HT and how it affects victims.
Participate in 40 hours of DV /SA/HT training, annually.
