Job Description and Duties

We Are Hiring for Permanent Intermittent Psychiatric Technician (Safety)!

($5,843 - $7,466 Monthly)
Salary subjected to hours worked on monthly basis

The Department of State Hospitals – Coalinga is now accepting applications for multiple  Permanent Intermittent  Psychiatric Technicians (Safety) positions.

The Internal Registry consists of Permanent Intermittent employees (PIE) who are available to work as needed (potential float capacity). The registry provides services for programs and other clinical areas in order to maintain minimum staffing requirements and reduce the cost of overtime. You may be moved to another work location during your shift according to facility needs.

Permanent intermittent employees may not work more than 1500 hours in any calendar (January through December) year unless approved by the Central Staffing Office (CSO) Administrator/designee, Executive Director and DSH-Sacramento Human Resources and authorized by Cal-HR.

In accepting employment as an intermittent employee, the employee agrees to comply with the minimum work requirements and scheduling parameters as described in the attached document labeled "Duty Statement" below

Working Conditions

In order to maintain a position in the Registry, all permanent intermittent employees are required to work:
1. Twelve 8-hour shifts per calendar month or the equivalent total hours (96 hours) if shifts are more than or less than 8-hours. Six of those shifts or the equivalent total hours if the shifts are more than or less than 8-hours must be weekend shifts scheduled between Friday PM shift and Sunday NOC shift, unless otherwise approved by the CSO Administrator. 2. Three major holiday and three high need days per calendar year must be worked.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

Permanent Intermittent Employees :

a. Initial Eligibility – A permanent intermittent employee will be eligible to enroll in health benefits during each calendar year if the employee has been credited with a minimum of 480 paid hours in one of two control periods. For purposes of this section, the control periods are January 1 through June 30 and July 1 through December 31 of each calendar year. An eligible permanent intermittent employee must enroll in a health benefit plan within 60 days from the end of the qualifying control period.

b. Continuing Eligibility – To continue health benefits, a permanent intermittent employee must be credited with a minimum of 480 paid hours in a control period or 960 paid hours in a two consecutive control periods.
