Reports To: Building Principal/Operations Supervisor/Head Custodian

Employment Status: Part-time

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Qualifications

1. Training and/or experience which evidences knowledge of custodial and basic maintenance techniques and basic supervision.

2. Demonstrable ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor.

3. Must be able to lift 50 + pounds

4. Demonstrable ability to interpret labels and warnings.

5. Must pass a criminal background check.

General Description

Perform all custodial duties required for the routine care, protection, and preservation of the assigned school building, equipment, furnishings, and grounds.

Essential Functions

1. Performs a variety of tasks to ensure cleanliness of buildings (e.g., scrubs, dusts, wet mops, vacuums, strips, sweeps, waxes floors, empties trash, washes walls and windows, cleans chalkboards, etc.).

2. Cleans restrooms and locker rooms daily (e.g., scrubs, disinfects, empties trash, etc.) and replenishes toilet paper, paper towels and soap dispensers.

3. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and custodial equipment (e.g., replaces light bulbs up to 8-10 feet, moves classroom furniture, sets up tables and chairs, etc.).

4. Assists in setting up and taking down all equipment for assemblies and special programs.

5. Operates necessary equipment (e.g., vacuum, cleaner, buffer, scrubber, etc.).

6. Assists in the cafeteria during lunch (e.g., sets up and takes down equipment, cleans floors, tables and chairs, etc.).

7. Maintains current inventory of supplies and notifies supervisor of supply needs.

8. Provides security for buildings by securing all doors, windows and restricted areas.

9. Closes the building by shutting off all lights and locking all doors and windows.

10. Performs a variety of tasks to the grounds surrounding the building (e.g., mows yard, trims shrubbery, removes snow and ice, keeps trash picked up and emptied, etc.). 11. Maintain clear routes for emergency egress to ensure the safe evacuation of the building. 12. Works on corrective action when informed assigned cleaning areas require improvement. 13. Attend all mandatory meetings and training programs. Participates in professional growth activities, when requested. 14. Maintains heating and cooling levels in building and reports problems. 15. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. 16. On call for calamity days and special events in buildings. 17. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors and building principal.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures; building policies and procedures; cleaning techniques and procedures; cleaning agents; inventory methods; basic building systems; proper and safe use of cleaning materials.

Ability to: interpret cleaning labels; follow directions; use hand and electrical tools; perform moderate physical labor; use cleaning materials properly.

Skill in: vacuum cleaner, buffer; scrubber.

Equipment Operated

Sweepers; brooms, mops, buffer scrubbers, pails; hand tools, ladder, small and large power tools.

Additional Working Conditions

Occasional: exposure to severe weather, loud noise, extreme heat or fire, blood, bodily fluids and tissue, irritating chemicals (e.g., cleaning solutions, solvents and equipment lubricants), electrical hazards and inclement weather driving conditions.

Frequent: exposure to unruly children/adults, dust.

Terms of Employment

Substitute, on an as needed basis.

Performance Evaluation

According to the Springboro Classified Employees Association negotiated agreement.
