Mechanical Helper
Hourly Rate: $22-25 per hour DOE
Type: Contract-to-Full-Time Hire
Location: Corpus Christi, TX
Hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Overtime as Needed
Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and motivated Mechanical Helper to assist experienced diesel mechanics with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of marine diesel engines and related mechanical systems. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the marine industry while supporting the safe and reliable operation of boats, barges, tugboats, and offshore vessels.
Responsibilities
Assist diesel mechanics with inspecting, maintaining, and repairing marine diesel engines and mechanical systems
Perform preventive maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks
Transport and organize tools, parts, and materials for repairs
Support repairs of fuel, air, cooling, lubrication, and exhaust systems
Help with removing and installing engine components, pumps, hoses, belts, and mechanical parts
Qualifications
Previous mechanical, industrial, automotive, diesel, or marine experience preferred but not required
Basic understanding of hand and power tools
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work
Comfortable working in engine rooms, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions
Dependable team player with a strong work ethic and attention to detail
Pass employment screenings and MVR
Skills
Experience with diesel engines and marine propulsion systems
Knowledge of auxiliary and mechanical systems (cooling, fuel, air, exhaust)
Familiarity with maintenance and repair procedures, schematics, and technical manuals
Ability to operate hand and power tools safely
Understanding of marine safety regulations and environmental standards
