Principal Technology Engineer

Job Summary The Principal Technology Engineer is a hands‑on technical expert responsible for the backend compute environment including M365, operating systems, Microsoft Security Suite (Purview), Entra, Microsoft Defender, backup, certificate management systems, end‑user compute devices, and the automation framework. The role coordinates with cross‑functional partners to ensure full lifecycle, compliance, disaster recovery readiness, documentation, standards, procedures and alignment with FFIEC regulatory guidance. It works closely with teams to ensure infrastructure reliability, audit readiness and compliance. Responsibilities Manage systems, configurations, and system stability. Oversee development of Microsoft M365 / Purview solutions to protect company assets. Provide monitoring and resolution support for alerts generated by Microsoft Purview, DLP and certificate management related systems. Maintain enterprise certificate systems using tools such as CyberArk and Venafi. Provide final oversight on high‑risk platform upgrades and migrations. Own overall compliance posture for backend systems, ensuring adherence to FFIEC guidelines, audit requirements, and IT risk management policies. Coordinate with internal audit, risk and compliance teams to deliver accurate evidence and remediation plans. Drive continuous improvement of compliance processes to reduce audit findings and enhance security posture. Monitor and maintain Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender and corporate certificate systems. Act as escalation point for major incidents and coordinate with leadership during crisis events. Collaborate with infrastructure teams to align technology decisions with enterprise goals. Champion disaster recovery planning, test execution and after‑action review improvements. Ensure all backend system documentation is accurate, current and meets audit standards; review and approve daily/weekly/monthly operational and compliance reports before submission to leadership. Report team performance metrics and operational health to IT leadership. Qualifications High School / GED / TASC equivalent. 10+ years managing large‑scale technology; 8+ years of technical expertise in one or more domain platforms. 1+ year coaching/mentoring experience with technology professionals. Proficient with Microsoft and Linux operating systems and certificate management. Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 environments (Entra, Defender, Purview) and data governance (classification, retention, lifecycle, labeling). Experience with Intune managed devices, MDM, MAM and zero‑touch deployments. Working knowledge of Disaster Recovery execution. Familiarity with Ansible and infrastructure automation workflows. Understanding of system lifecycle, patching and EOL remediation. Awareness of FFIEC, SOX, HIPAA, NIST or similar compliance frameworks. Strong documentation and cross‑functional communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Undergraduate degree (4 years or equivalent). Certifications: Microsoft Certified Professional – Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, CompTIA Server+, Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). Strong expertise in certificate management (public key infrastructure, on‑prem Microsoft certificate stores, CyberArk, Venafi). Knowledge of MECM administrators and distribution points. Experience with Intune Managed devices, MDM, Bitlocker and other standard business tools. Strong communication, customer service orientation and relationship‑building skills. Understanding of hardware lifecycle principles, asset management. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, collaborate proactively, and align with enterprise goals.
