The Project Engineer supports major construction projects onsite in Boise, Idaho, with a strong focus on plumbing and mechanical scopes. This role provides comprehensive project management support to Project Managers through effective communication, scheduling, cost tracking, document control, and forecasting of labor and material costs. The Project Engineer collaborates closely with superintendents, foremen, engineers, detailers, and leadership to deliver high-quality, profitable projects while maintaining strict safety and contractual compliance on a complex industrial jobsite.
Responsibilities- Support Project Managers by coordinating day-to-day project activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Track, forecast, and report labor hours and material costs to help manage project profitability and resource utilization.
- Assist in the buyout and procurement process for major equipment and subcontracts, including obtaining quotes, evaluating options, and issuing purchase orders or subcontract agreements.
- Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment and materials to ensure timely availability for field installation and fabrication activities.
- Maintain a working knowledge of general conditions, scopes of work, and specifications of project contracts and subcontracts to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Maintain and control project documents in accordance with company standards and contractual obligations, including drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and correspondence.
- Collaborate with field labor supervision to plan, organize, and schedule project work, including preparation and maintenance of integrated subcontract and contract project schedules.
- Review contract drawings, detail drawings, and specifications to understand design intent and ensure accurate execution of mechanical and plumbing scopes.
- Prepare fabrication shop work packages, including detailed drawing reviews, material takeoffs and buyouts, and development of man-hour fabrication budgets.
- Support the development and administration of RFIs and change orders related to mechanical and plumbing scopes, ensuring clarity of scope and cost impacts.
- Develop an understanding of construction sequencing as it relates to mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and process piping systems, and apply this knowledge to planning and coordination.
- Ensure full compliance with the Safety Program at the jobsite, promoting safe work practices and adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in coordination with other trades and project stakeholders to minimize conflicts and maintain efficient workflow on the jobsite.
- Use project management and construction software tools to manage information, track progress, and communicate with project teams.
- Maintain regular attendance and promptness to support consistent project coordination and communication.
- Experience in project engineering or project management within construction, preferably on mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, or process piping projects.
- Knowledge of mechanical construction practices, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems in industrial or commercial environments.
- Ability to understand and work with RFIs, change orders, and other project control documents related to mechanical and plumbing scopes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, detail drawings, and specifications for mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and collaboration tools such as MS Teams and OneDrive.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam and Smartsheet for document review, markup, and project tracking.
- Ability to learn and use platforms such as SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Viewpoint Vista, Revit, and Stratus, with on-the-job training provided.
- Strong organizational skills for tracking labor, materials, documents, and schedules across multiple project activities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with project managers, field teams, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Understanding of construction sequencing and workflows, especially for mechanical and plumbing scopes of work.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to jobsite safety programs and policies.
- Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is desired.
- Previous construction field experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree, particularly in mechanical or industrial construction environments.
- Experience with mechanical construction, industrial construction, or large-scale commercial projects.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems, including their installation, coordination, and commissioning requirements.
- Experience with estimation, including material takeoffs and labor budgeting for mechanical and plumbing scopes.
- Knowledge of Bluebeam and Procore is highly preferred for document management and project coordination.
- Exposure to scheduling practices and tools used in construction project planning.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a close-knit, team-oriented environment, building strong relationships across field and office teams.
- Interest in long-term growth within a mechanical contracting organization known for its collaborative culture and stable presence in the industry.
This role is based onsite at a chip manufacturing plant in Boise, Idaho, where the majority of work involves plumbing and mechanical scopes within an industrial facility. The Project Engineer works closely with field supervision, craft labor, and project management teams in a dynamic jobsite environment that combines office-based coordination with regular field presence. The workplace emphasizes safety, collaboration, and open communication, with a culture that values integrity, respect, and teamwork. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00/hr.
