Key Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse - Critical Care

• Obtain and record initial assessment, establishing priorities based on patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs
• Re-assess patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention
• Develop and implement a measurable individualized plan of care within the established time frame
• Make comprehensive nursing decisions based on the evaluation of patient outcomes, modifying care plans as needed
• Participate in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning
• Implement and document timely interventions appropriate to patient needs
• Evaluate the plan of care
• Perform various Point of Care testing procedures
• Utilize effective communication and delegate unit work assignments appropriately
• Coordinate team assignments and follow up on delegated tasks
• Participate in the orientation of new staff/students and collaborate with team members
• Maintain high levels of patient/customer satisfaction and support unit growth and development
• Comply with all safety and hospital policies and maintain positive attendance

Requirements of the Registered Nurse - Critical Care

• Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing
• Current New Mexico RN license or current Compact state license
• Current BLS Certification from AHA
• Current ACLS Certification from AHA
• Current TNCC Certification
• Current knowledge and skills appropriate to age/type of patient population served
• Clear and concise communication skills appropriate to the developmental age of the patient
