Responsibilities include testing procedures, compliance with regulations, site‑specific daily operations, patient flow, and staff management. Acts as working general supervisor for the laboratory. Supervises laboratory personnel, evaluates qualifications, interviews and hires, monitors and evaluates performance, provides continuing education, schedules personnel, and directly supervises day‑to‑day testing and reporting. Establishes and monitors quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing and routine maintenance policies and procedures. Establishes and monitors policies and procedures for overall testing performance; selects, evaluates, and validates all test methods; writes new test procedures and maintains a current procedure manual. Reviews patient test results and associated records, ensuring no results are reported until corrective actions are taken. Maintains awareness of and compliance with state and federal regulations regarding laboratory operations, licensing, OSHA, and other safety regulations. Orders supplies and equipment, evaluates new equipment and reagents for technical suitability and cost effectiveness, and performs cost analysis on major purchases. Analyzes true cost of providing individual tests and services and recommends pricing. Interfaces with nursing, clerical, and other disciplines to ensure efficient operations. Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the laboratory area as needed. Maintains confidentiality of all patient and staff information. Assists management in budgeting, cost analysis, marketing, and managed care contracts. Participates in site‑specific daily operations, communications and patient flow. Demonstrates working knowledge of applicable labor laws. Salary Level $85,000 - $100,000 annual Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science. Minimum five (5) years experience in high‑complexity medical laboratory testing. ASCP or equivalent certification. Preferred: 1+ years previous supervisory experience strongly preferred. Physical Demands The job requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, sitting/standing for extensive periods, finger and hand use, occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs, and requires corrected vision, color perception, hearing, and legible handwriting. Work Environment Work is performed in an office environment with frequent travel by automobile, up to 70% of the workweek.
