Landry/French is actively seeking an experienced Project Superintendent with 5 -10 years of experience in commercial construction with a focus on healthcare (ACHA). This role is responsible for the overall coordination, supervision, and execution of field operations on assigned commercial construction projects. This position leads larger, more complex projects and serves as the primary field leader responsible for managing day-to-day construction activities, subcontractor coordination, safety performance, quality control, schedule adherence, and project execution.
Working closely with Project Managers, Project Executives, project teams, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and clients, the Superintendent ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within project objectives, and in accordance with contract documents and Company standards.
The Superintendent is expected to work independently, manage increasingly complex construction activities and building systems, provide mentorship and guidance to Assistant Superintendents and less-experienced field personnel, and contribute to operational excellence throughout project execution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Operations Management
- Provide overall project site coordination and supervision of day-to-day field activities.
- Direct and coordinate subcontractor activities to support project goals, schedules, and milestones.
- Develop and proactively manage three-week look-ahead schedules to ensure activities occur on or ahead of scheduled dates.
- Lead daily subcontractor coordination meetings and communicate project priorities, logistics, and execution plans.
- Monitor work progress and implement corrective actions to address field issues and schedule impacts.
- Generate Requests for Information (RFIs) as required.
- Coordinate procurement and timely delivery of equipment, tools, materials, and temporary facilities.
- Obtain and coordinate required inspections and regulatory approvals.
- Participate in preconstruction, progress, coordination, and project team meetings.
- Monitor project costs and support cost-conscious project execution.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional project site.
- Coordinate site logistics, material handling, storage areas, and temporary facilities.
Advanced Field Leadership
- Lead field operations on larger, more complex, or higher-profile commercial construction projects.
- Coordinate complex project logistics, sequencing, phasing, and operational planning activities.
- Partner with project teams to identify and mitigate project risks.
- Evaluate construction means, methods, and sequencing to improve project outcomes.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to Assistant Superintendents and less experienced Superintendents.
- Support constructability reviews and preconstruction planning efforts.
- Assist in evaluating manpower loading, resource planning, and schedule recovery strategies.
- Serve as a subject matter resource regarding building systems, sequencing, and field operations.
Safety Management
- Champion the Company's safety culture and commitment to incident prevention.
- Ensure compliance with Company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct routine jobsite safety observations and inspections.
- Identify and address unsafe conditions and behaviors.
- Partner with Safety personnel to implement corrective actions and safety initiatives.
- Promote employee engagement in safety programs and safe work practices.
- Maintain OSHA 30 certification and support maintaining a safe project environment.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with project safety requirements.
- Investigate and report incidents, near misses, and jobsite safety concerns as required.
Quality Management
- Ensure all work performed by subcontractors and Company personnel meets contract requirements, project specifications, applicable codes, and Company quality standards.
- Monitor workmanship and construction quality throughout project execution.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, mockups, and quality control activities.
- Identify and resolve quality concerns in a timely manner.
- Review completed work and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Manage punch list activities and ensure timely completion.
- Support successful project turnover and closeout activities.
Schedule Management
- Monitor project schedules and milestone achievement.
- Coordinate subcontractors, materials, inspections, and resources to maintain project schedules.
- Identify schedule risks, delays, and potential impacts.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to support on-time completion.
- Participate in schedule reviews and planning meetings.
- Collaborate with project teams to evaluate schedule impacts associated with design changes, weather events, procurement delays, and field conditions.
Project Administration
- Maintain project documentation including daily reports, field reports, safety reports, schedules, inspection records, manpower reports, and weekly progress reports.
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and contract documents to support project execution.
- Communicate project status, progress, concerns, and risks to project leadership.
- Coordinate project documentation related to inspections, testing, permits, and compliance requirements.
- Support project startup, turnover, and closeout activities.
- Maintain accurate records of project activities and field conditions.
Team Development
- Mentor and develop Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Support onboarding and training of new field employees.
- Share knowledge and best practices with project teams.
- Foster employee growth and development through coaching and leadership.
- Establish clear performance expectations and support successful project execution.
Client and Stakeholder Relations
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Represent the Company professionally during project meetings, inspections, and jobsite interactions.
- Promote client satisfaction through proactive communication and project leadership.
- Assist in resolving project issues and field conflicts in a professional and timely manner.
- Support business development and project pursuit activities as requested.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in project pursuits, preconstruction planning, and operational reviews as requested.
- Provide feedback regarding field operations, procedures, and process improvements.
- Assist with development and review of scopes of work.
- Support implementation of Company initiatives, technology platforms, and best practices.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Additional education in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of commercial construction experience required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience leading field operations as a Superintendent or equivalent leadership role preferred.
- Experience managing larger, more complex commercial construction projects preferred.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple subcontractors, project phases, and construction activities simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of commercial building systems, project sequencing, and field operations management required.
- Experience in commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and renovation construction preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- Advanced understanding of commercial construction means, methods, sequencing, materials, and building systems.
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, logistics planning, workforce management, and subcontractor coordination.
- Ability to independently manage complex field operations and project challenges.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and technical documents.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and workforce development abilities.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Proficient understanding of project budgets, labor productivity, job cost reporting, and operational performance metrics.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with project stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing project conditions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and related construction management software preferred.
- OSHA 30 Certification required.
- First Aid and CPR certifications preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed primarily on active commercial construction sites.
- Regular exposure to varying weather conditions, temperature extremes, dust, noise, vibration, heavy equipment, and active construction operations.
- Frequent interaction with employees, subcontractors, vendors, clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Position requires extensive field presence and active engagement with project teams.
- Work may require responding to project issues outside of normal business hours.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and temporary access structures.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and conduct field inspections.
- Ability to access all areas of active construction projects.
- Ability to review drawings, specifications, schedules, reports, and field documentation.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials, equipment, plans, and project documentation weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safely perform essential job functions.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Regular travel to assigned project sites is required.
- Travel between project locations may be required based on project assignments and operational needs.
- Occasional attendance at training programs, company meetings, and professional development events may be required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable driving record may be required.
