Lead Electrical Design Engineer

Electrical EngineerSchweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks an Electrical Engineer to design and support electrical control and protection cabinets. This position focuses on component selection, cabinet layout, wiring design, and compliance with applicable standards. The ideal candidate enjoys iterative design, works comfortably with cross-functional teams, and applies thorough knowledge of electrical safety and regulatory requirements to deliver reliable, manufacturable designs.Position ResponsibilitiesDesign electrical control and protection cabinets, including schematic development, panel layout, wiring, grounding, and labelingSelect electrical components such as transformers, contactors, relays, terminal blocks, power supplies, and circuit protection devicesDevelop and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bills of materials (BOMs)Apply proper creepage and clearance requirements for high-voltage and high-current componentsEnsure designs comply with applicable standards and codesParticipate in design reviews and support design iteration and continuous improvementCollaborate with component design, manufacturing, test, and qualification teamsSupport prototype builds, troubleshooting, qualification testing, and production transitionPrepare and maintain technical documentation to support manufacturing and certificationsAssist with regulatory reviews, audits, and certifications as requiredRequired QualificationsB.S in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experienceTypically 5+ years experience with electrical cabinet or control panel designKnowledge of electrical component selection for industrial or power applicationsUnderstanding of wiring practices, grounding, and cable managementFamiliarity with creepage and clearance requirementsWorking knowledge of electrical safety and compliance standardsAbility to document designs clearly and communicate effectively with cross-functional teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience designing cabinets for power systems, protection, automation, or industrial controlsKnowledge of thermal management, EMC/EMI considerations, and environmental ratings (NEMA/IP)Experience using electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or similarFamiliarity with manufacturing and panel shop processesInterest in iterative design and continuous improvementFamiliarity with MIL StandardsLocationPullman, WA- SEL corporate office is located in Eastern Washington where you'll enjoy an unmatched quality of life. Development Lead Engineer: $136,000 - $201,000. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background.
