District Office PURPOSE STATEMENT
To assist in a supervisory capacity in the provisions for the security and protection of all students, staff and school corporation property.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities performed by this position.

• Signs in and makes their presence known to the appropriate school personnel.
• Works under the immediate direction of the principal and/or the principal's designee within the published job description for security officers.
• Walks school buildings and grounds as assigned by the principal or designee.
• Makes sure all outside doors designated to be locked are secured.
• Keeps entrances to the building clear of unauthorized persons.
• Directs visitors to the principal's office. Only persons with proper authorization may visit classrooms and other areas where students are assembled.
• Prevents unauthorized parking on school campuses. Tickets all cars found parked improperly. At high schools, checks parking areas for cars that do not have proper parking stickers and takes appropriate measures.
• Checks grounds and parking lots for unauthorized persons loitering and/or trespassing. Familiarizes him/herself with students at their assigned location so they can more easily identify unauthorized persons coming into buildings and on grounds.
• Deals firmly with student disorders.
• Uses good judgment before making arrests. Always notify the lead officer and principal or designee as soon as possible. All security measures undertaken by security officers off school grounds must be approved by the principal and/or designee prior to such actions.
• Whenever arrests are made, arrest reports are to be in the Security Services Office no later than twenty-four hours after the incident. Arrests made on Friday or the day before holidays are to be placed on file in the Security Services Office on the following school day.
• Reports their intended or emergency absence to their school office and/or Security Services Office.
• Wears their identification tags at all times when not in their respective uniforms.
• Building Officers will not leave their posts to transport students any place unless the student is under arrest and the roving unit is unavailable, or it has been cleared by the principal and the Security Services Office.
• Maintains a helpful attitude toward the public, students, teachers, and other fellow employees.
• Uses appropriate language at all times.
• Checks with office personnel and signs out at the end of working hours.
• A paid lunch of thirty (30) minutes may be provided for security officers.
• Gives immediate notice to the Security Services Office when guns are confiscated.
• Refrains from administering corporal punishment to students.

• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective working environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Juvenile law.

• City Ordinances and state Laws and allows no one to interfere.

Skill in:

• Using a computer and related software applications.
• Using modern office equipment.

Ability to:

• Assist bus driver and rides buses when necessary to prevent or investigate criminal acts.

• Demonstrate good judgment and acceptance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must have a High School Diploma, or G.E.D. Officer should be in good health and stamina. Must have at least 1 year of previous Security experience.

CERTIFICATION
Must possess a valid Indiana drivers and/or chauffeur's license and will be subject to background research and submit to various mental, physical and drug tests.
