Base Salary: For the 2026–27 academic year, faculty salaries range from $50,000 to $120,000 annually. Placement within this range is determined by years of experience, in alignment with Milton Academy’s faculty salary scale, which is designed to ensure equitable pay progression.
Housing Stipend: Faculty members who reside off-campus will also receive an annual stipend of $13,000 (in 2026-27) in addition to the base salary listed above.
Milton Academy is an independent college preparatory K–12 school, boarding and day in grades 9–12, located just south of Boston.

Summary of Position:
Milton Academy is seeking a full-time Grade 5 teacher in the Lower School starting August 2026. This role includes leading a class of 16 students while working in close partnership with a grade-level colleague to support a cohort of 32 children.
The Grade 5 teacher is responsible for core instruction in language arts, while the partner teacher is responsible for core instruction in math and social studies. Students attend specialist-led classes in Music and Performing Arts, Art and Design, Physical Education, Computer Science and Technology, Spanish, and Environmental Science.
We’re looking for an educator who is:
Experienced – with at least 3 years of elementary teaching experience and a strong background in literacy instruction and curriculum development
Passionate about language arts – skilled in teaching reading, writing, speaking, listening, and word study through a workshop-based or similarly student-centered approach
Curious, reflective, and collaborative – eager to work as part of a team to support each child’s growth
Excited to work with this age group in child development

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Teaching and Curriculum
Design and implement dynamic, age-appropriate, and comprehensive lesson plans across core subject areas (e.g., language arts, math, science, and social studies) that align with the school’s curricular goals for grade-level.
Integrate inquiry-based learning approaches that foster student engagement, curiosity, and critical thinking.
Collaborate closely with fellow grade partner to plan instruction, align curriculum, and ensure consistency in academic goals, teaching practices, and student expectations across the grade.
Participate in the life of the school outside the classroom, including faculty meetings, assemblies, assigned lunch, recess, drop-off and pick-up duties, and advising student activities.
Create a student-centered learning atmosphere that fosters a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation and discussion.
Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
Stay informed about the latest developments in elementary education, trends, and innovations, and incorporate these into the program.
Learn about diversity, equity, and inclusion in education; incorporate related principles when designing curriculum, teaching, and engaging with students.
Collaborate with K-5 colleagues and specialist teachers to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.
Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, and observations.
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding academic progress.

Abide by the school’s policies and procedures as outlined in the provided handbooks.
Communicate with the appropriate supervisor when unable to meet any professional obligation.
Supervision to be received: Supervised by the Principal and Assistant Principal.

Education/Certification/Licensure
Required:
A bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
Preferred:
A master’s degree in Education or a related field
Experience
Required:
A minimum of three years of elementary teaching experience and a strong background in literacy instruction and curriculum development
Preferred:
Experience teaching at the upper elementary or middle school level
Experience working in an independent school

Physical Abilities
Required:
Must be able to work at a computer for up to 8 hours each day in conjunction with OSHA requirements.
Must be able to teach in a classroom setting and use relevant instructional technology.
Must be able to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, set up activity spaces, and be active for extended periods.
