Head High School Alpine Skiing Coach

Head High School Alpine Skiing Coach Lake County School District Region 1 LCHS - Leadville, Colorado Estimated time commitment 10-20 hours per week, depending on the part of the season (the official season is mid November through the end of February). Detailed description of duties/responsibilities Lead the Lake County alpine ski program Instruct in skiing skills and technique Keep safety a priority in all activities Lead and organize assistant coaches and volunteers Supervise athletes at meets and on the bus traveling to and from those events Available to work afternoons, evenings and weekends, and be willing to travel with the team to different locations for meets Communicate clearly and positively with parents and the press Complete the coach certifications required by CHSAA and the school district Attend the ski league meeting in Frisco on the first Friday in October Special qualifications, if any Certified USSS Level 100 or higher (background with ski instruction could substitute for USSS 100) Background and experience with ski racing and general ski instruction Preferred familiarity with course setting, ski race operations and team management Experience coaching, especially with high school athletes, preferred Other skills and abilities Maintains appropriate confidentiality Promotes a harassment-free environment Must possess leadership skills, and be able to set an example for athletes Excellent communication skills in order to inspire athletes and work with them on improvement Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork Ability to learn and upgrade job skills in order to meet changing demands of the position Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism Knowledge of and ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district, Board of Education, state and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position Ability to work independently with minimum supervision Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrates initiative to act without being asked Physical demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
