Project Accountant

A thriving company in Long Beach, CA, is seeking a Project Accountant. This is a Direct Hire opportunity offering hybrid options with 1 day a month in the office. The Project Accountant is responsible for the financial management of projects throughout the full project lifecycle . This role partners closely with Project Managers and the Finance team to ensure accurate project setup, billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting . This position requires hands-on project accounting experience . General accounts payable, accounts receivable, or administrative accounting experience alone is not sufficient . Key Responsibilities Set up new projects, budgets, phases, and billing terms in a project-based accounting system in accordance with contract requirements. Prepare and process monthly project invoices , including review of billable labor, reimbursable expenses, and percent-complete or time-and-materials billing. Partner directly with Project Managers to validate billing, project progress, and financial status. Track invoice status, respond to client billing inquiries, and assist with collections as needed. Monitor project budgets versus actuals , identify variances, and proactively flag financial risks. Support WIP review and revenue recognition as part of the month-end close process. Maintain accurate project financial records, including contracts, amendments, billing schedules, and supporting documentation. Coordination & Compliance Coordinate with internal teams and consultants to ensure alignment with contract terms and billing requirements. Review and verify project-related AP charges for accuracy and proper project allocation. Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and contractual obligations. Measures of Success Accurate and timely project billing and reporting Clear, responsive communication with Project Managers Strong organization and documentation practices Consistent adherence to deadlines and financial controls Qualifications Required 1+ years of hands-on project accounting experience , including project billing and direct collaboration with Project Managers Experience supporting billing tied to project contracts, budgets, and schedules Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment Preferred Experience in project-based environments such as architecture, engineering, construction, or design Experience with project-based accounting systems (e.g., Ajera, Vision, or similar) Exposure to WIP, revenue recognition, or percent-complete billing Compensation Salary range: $65,000 – $85,000 annually , depending on experience and qualifications #J-18808-Ljbffr Kinetic Personnel Group, Inc
