Facilities Servcies - Engineering Student Intern - Design and Construction

This student position assists the Facilities Services division of Design & Construction with various engineering/architectural projects. This job is part-time during the academic year and full-time during the summer; hours are flexible for students who are taking summer classes. Both active UAF students and High School graduates who have been accepted to UAF may apply. Student intern job responsibilities generally consist of assisting the UAF (DDC) Design and Construction Management team for various UAF building projects. DDC interns work with other professional engineering and management staff and are offered a wide range of duties to enhance their college education. This is not a short-term internship like other agencies or private firms:interns typically work at DDC for many years and often time are hired on full time by the division is a position is open.

To thrive in this position, students should be passionate about the built environment, whether roads, buildings, infrastructure, and associated building systems. DDC manages a wide range of studies and design activities, from master planning to construction, from installing a door to building complex power plants. Every project and every day can be different. Students who thrive on variety and have the drive to improve the student experience at UAF will excel in this role. The student intern position has been a springboard to highly success entry into the engineering job market.

Minimum Qualifications:

This recruitment is open to undergraduate students only. 

Starting salary - $16.85 with opportunity for advancement.

No formal certification is required. Students should be enrolled in a UAF Engineering Program (preferably Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical degree seeking) or the CTC Construction Management Program. Experience with AutoCAD preferred, but not required.

This position may require driving. A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.

COLLEGE STUDENTS: Must be enrolled in an Engineering or Construction Management program at UAF. Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits during the current semester year of applying,  or have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and GPA must be 2.0 or better. HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES (current year of applying to this position): Must have an interest in an engineering field. Must have applied and been accepted to UAF. Must have a GPA of 2.0 or better.

Data entry, basic computer skills, willingness to show up to work on time and be a reliable asset to the department.

Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, or a newly enrolled student.
