Construction Inspector I

What You Will Do Performing field observation/inspection. Material sampling and testing. Verify compliance with the plans and specifications. Prepare pay estimates, and produce project documentation for private, municipal, county, MnDOT, and federal projects. Documentation will include daily diaries, quantity calculations and backup documentation, letters, memos, and spreadsheets. You may also help with surveying, proposals, project budgets and schedules and may be involved in design-build, pavement management, or a variety of other technical related activities. Applicant must be willing to travel and perform assigned duties outside of the immediate Rochester area. What You Will Bring Municipal, heavy civil roadway and bridge construction inspection who want to better themselves and want to be challenged. 1+ years of construction inspection or related experience is required, 5+ years of experience preferred. (e.g., MnDOT Aggregate Production Tester, Concrete Field Tester, Concrete Field Inspector, Grading and Base Tester, Grading and Base Inspector, Bituminous Plant Tester, Bituminous Street Inspector, etc.). Excellent technical, communication, organizational skills. Material testing experience as well as current MnDOT technical certifications are preferred. Qualified candidates should send a copy of your current DOT certification card when applying. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required. A two-year technical degree from an accredited school, or a degree from a four-year accredited college in a field related to civil engineering construction is a plus and will only increase your opportunities and growth. Conducts visual assessments of task quality and job site safety. Positions self to access tools and materials in various locations. Ascends/descends into job site areas to complete inspections and data collection. May remain in stationary position for extended periods. Primarily field-based role must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Full‑time position with standard business hours; occasional night work or overtime may be required based on project deadlines. Must be able to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, as required by the project, client, or hiring manager. Reliable transportation required and the ability to travel daily within assigned territory. Operates tools requiring fine motor skills. Moves materials weighing up to 75 pounds periodically. Traverses construction sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches. Conducts visual assessments of task quality and job site safety.
