Material Handler II
The Material Handler II plays a key role in supporting production by safely relocating, organizing, and tracking materials throughout the facility. This position monitors material needs, picks and delivers materials to various production areas, maintains accurate inventory records, and assists with shipping and receiving activities. The role requires prior warehouse experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the material needs of multiple production areas through visual inspection, oral instructions, or work orders to ensure materials are available when needed.
- Pick materials from designated storage locations and deliver them to the appropriate machines or production areas using forklifts, cranes, sit-down tow motors, and stand-up tow motors.
- Monitor the production of parts by reading routing cards and move parts to the next operational department, such as wash or shipping, to maintain workflow.
- Track inventory movements by scanning labels, including packing slips, and entering item information into the Shop Floor Plus system to maintain accurate records.
- Load and unload freight and materials to and from loading docks or delivery vehicles using forklifts, sit-down tow motors, and stand-up tow motors.
- Check delivery quantities, sort materials, and store items according to the departments storage system to keep inventory organized and accessible.
- Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information to ensure materials and products are clearly labeled.
- Install protective devices such as bracing, padding, or strapping to prevent shifting or damage to items during transportation.
- Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure inventory is protected, organized, and stored in a safe and orderly manner.
- Monitor inventory levels regularly and submit material order requests as needed to prevent shortages or delays in production.
- Prepare shipments by counting or weighing parts to verify correct quantities, organizing orders based on shipping destination and priority, scanning and tracking orders, and communicating with delivery drivers to ensure accuracy.
- Check forklifts and other machinery for full charge and proper functioning before use to promote safe and reliable operation.
- Construct boxes using a staple gun to prepare packaging for outgoing materials or products.
- Cut materials to proper lengths using a saw based on job requirements.
- Dump chips or scraps using a forklift or by hand to maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating heavy machinery and performing material handling tasks.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with production, shipping, and other departments to support smooth operations.
Essential Skills
- Prior experience working in a warehouse environment.
- Proficiency in operating forklifts, sit-down tow motors, and stand-up tow motors in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to perform work safely, including operating heavy machinery according to established safety procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform repeated physical tasks as part of daily responsibilities.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, up to 8 hours per shift.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate picking, labeling, inventory tracking, and shipment preparation.
- Skill in coordination and manual dexterity to operate material handling equipment and tools effectively.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to enter and track data in production or inventory systems.
- Knowledge of basic math, including algebra, fractions, measures, and weights, to support accurate counting and measuring.
- Demonstrated integrity, reliability, responsibility, and accountability in daily work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with coworkers and other departments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using Shop Floor Plus for tracking inventory movements and production activities is preferred.
- Experience with Infor ERP XA Power-Link or similar enterprise systems is preferred.
- Experience with RF scanners for tracking inventory and shipments.
- Experience in material handling, picking, packing, loading, unloading, and general production support.
- Comfort working in a structured production and warehouse environment with established processes and standards.

Work Environment
This role is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing and warehouse facility that produces high-quality products using advanced machining operations, including robotics, automatic machining, and computer-integrated manufacturing. The position operates on a second shift schedule from 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM, Monday through Thursday, providing a consistent four-day workweek. The work involves frequent use of forklifts, cranes, sit-down tow motors, stand-up tow motors, RF scanners, and computer systems such as Shop Floor Plus and Infor ERP XA Power-Link. Team members spend much of the shift on their feet, lifting up to 40 pounds, performing repeated physical tasks, and working around production equipment and materials. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with clearly defined storage systems and equipment storage areas to protect inventory and support efficient operations.
Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Whitsett, NC.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
