Job Duties

The Division of Population Health Data (DPHD) is responsible for analytic and outreach services within the Office of Family Health Services (OFHS), including epidemiological activities regarding the collection, monitoring, analysis and interpretation of data, and program evaluation regarding programmatic data-informed decision-making and needs assessment activities. The DPHD seeks a qualified candidate to serve as the Severe Maternal Morbidity (SMM) mid-level epidemiologist. The position supports the implementation of the SMM Surveillance and Review Program by serving as the technical and analytical leader for this statewide initiative. This position is responsible for developing and operationalizing the SMM surveillance case definition, building and maintaining the secure REDCap-based reporting system that hospitals will use to submit data, conducting surveillance and trend analysis on statewide SMM data, and developing data dashboards and visualizations for internal and public reporting. This position will work under the supervision of the SMM Nurse Coordinator, assisting with program implementation and stakeholder engagement, managing data quality assurance processes, responding to data requests and analytical inquiries from hospitals and partner agencies, and supporting the development of the annual SMM Program report. This position will participate in evaluation activities to assess program impact and inform continuous improvement, collaborate with external partners on data sharing and analysis.

Minimum Qualifications
• Considerable knowledge of the cause, transmission, treatment, and prevention of communicable and other conditions of public health importance.
• Considerable knowledge of methods of public health surveillance and disease outbreak investigations.
• Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies regarding the reporting and control of disease.
• Working knowledge of biostatistics, computer data analysis, and data management techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to develop program goals and objectives and to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to collect, quality assure, analyze, and present statistical data.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with health care professionals and the general public.
• Experience in epidemiology, public health, or a related area.

Additional Considerations
• Experience w/ statistical software packages.
• Experience w/ database management systems, especially those used to manage population-based disease data or other conditions of public health significance.
• Experience in maternal and child health, such as severe maternal morbidity.
• Training/experience in public health, epidemiology, or biostatistics or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and direct the work of others either in a supervisory or project management capacity.
