Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for a Medical-Surgical Unit specializing in the care of adult and geriatric patients with a diverse range of medical-surgical diagnoses. The RN will be responsible for providing safe, evidence-based patient care, coordinating interdisciplinary treatment plans, and supporting patients throughout their hospitalization and recovery journey.

Unit Information

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical
• Bed Capacity: 21-30 beds
• Patient Population: Adult and Geriatric
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Float Requirement: May float to other units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for medical-surgical patients.
• Provide care for post-operative patients and those with various medical-surgical diagnoses.
• Safely and accurately administer medications, blood products, and therapeutic treatments.
• Monitor and manage patients requiring telemetry monitoring and cardiac assessments.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case management, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and recovery expectations.
• Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record system.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, quality initiatives, and patient safety standards.

Clinical Skills & Competencies

• Airway/Respiratory Care: Breathing treatments, chest tube setup, and care, tracheostomy care.
• Cardiac/Circulatory: Blood and blood product administration, 12-lead EKG monitoring, telemetry interpretation.
• Line Management & Equipment: Drain management, feeding tube care, PICC and central line management, PCA pump management.
• IV Medications & Drips: Insulin administration, heparin administration, heparin drip management.
• Behavioral Health Exposure: Care for patients on involuntary status when appropriate.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Experience in a Medical-Surgical setting preferred.
• Proficiency in patient assessment, care planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and post-operative patient care.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and critical-thinking skills.
