Lead FPGA Engineer

Job Description Summary The Services Instrumentation and Controls C10 / C35.6 engineer is responsible for designing, developing and testing Embedded Software (Firmware), platforms and systems that control safety critical functions for the BWRX-300 Small Module Reactor. This role requires technical problem solving, strong software and / or FPGA skills, and effective communication/collaboration with other teams within the GEH business functions. Roles and Responsibilities Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks. Prepare requirement specifications and design specifications, develop embedded firmware and application software, perform module and integrated testing, and creation of all associated documentation. Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks. Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes. Apply engineering fundamentals and first‑order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance. Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures. Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities. Effectively manage multiple priorities. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering from an accredited university or college. 6 years of experience in embedded software development including knowledge of common FPGA languages and software development tools (Version control, IDEs, Debuggers, etc.). Eligibility Requirements For U.S. - This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. Desired Qualifications Knowledge and experience with common HDL languages (Verilog, System Verilog) and PLD/FPGA development tools (Quartus, Vivado, ModelSim, Questa, etc.). Experience in nuclear design or equivalent highly regulated industry. Competency in industry standards: IEEE, IEC, IPC, and quality. Competency in modeling and test data collection tools. Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, balanced and a results‑oriented analyst and leader. Proven track record of delivering commitments on budget and schedule with high quality results. Strong verbal communication, as well as facilitation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences – Able to communicate openly, calmly, and crisply in stressful situations. Adaptive; able to quickly learn diverse and varying organizational interfaces with professional astuteness. Continuous improvement mindset with an ability to identify, influence, and implement better ways to do an activity or process. Solid technical writing skills with focus on requirements and design documents. Knowledge and experience with PCB design, signal analysis and system verification tools (Altium, PSpice, System Verilog, UVM, etc.). The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
