Assistant Operations Manager

Overview Shift: SUN-THUR 10 AM - 7 PM. Off: FRI/SAT. Position: Assistant Operations Manager – Distribution Center Location: Mattress Firm distribution network (DC) Responsibilities Assist in the efficient day-to-day operations of the distribution center. Contribute to meeting overall financial objectives of the distribution center relative to budget. Create and foster an environment of trust, open two-way communication, and cohesive team effort. Ensure alignment with strategic vision and communicate organizational mission and values to the team. Communicate with team members through regular and frequent meetings; hold one-on-one meetings with direct reports at least twice a month. Ensure adherence to operational processes, policies, and procedures; maintain a safe and well-presented distribution center. Identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the distribution center. Facilitate resolution of customer service issues. Verify driver payroll for accuracy; conduct required physical cycle counts and address discrepancies. Ensure use of proper safety equipment and a safe working environment by adhering to safety policies and procedures. Complete required training modules and certifications prior to due dates; ensure safety policies and procedures are followed to maintain a safe workplace. Communicate professionally with internal and external contacts; follow company policies on appearance, brand representation, and operations. Communicate concerns to leadership to ensure department and company efficiency; execute team member performance plans, progressive discipline, and terminations per policy. Non-Essential Responsibilities Participate in monthly DC-wide meetings to discuss organization, DC wins, and opportunities; address questions or concerns. Assist Loss Prevention with audits; participate in safety and training activities for team members and contract employees. May monitor time records, approve paid time off, and participate in interviewing and hiring for DC roles. May manage the DC in the absence of the DC leader; participate in coaching conversations and disciplinary actions as appropriate. May lead or participate in daily stand-up meetings and onboarding of new DC team members. Support company initiatives and pursue opportunities to add value to the team and department. Expand knowledge through educational opportunities and contribute ideas to optimize performance and outcomes. For eligible leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities may be available at the discretion of the company.
