Emergency Department (ED) Technician - Emergency Department

Work Shift Day (United States of America) Emergency Department Technician Full‑Time/Day Shift (7 am – 7 pm). Job Summary Level I Emergency Department Technician providing safe, age‑appropriate patient care under the direction of the registered nurse. Performs vital sign assessment, EKG, blood glucose testing, wound care, catheterization, and other essential procedures while maintaining aseptic technique, monitoring cardiac rhythms, and ensuring supplies and equipment are available. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Obtain and document vital signs; notify nurse if abnormal. Perform 12‑lead EKG and hand to ED physician. Perform bedside blood sugar testing; notify nurse if abnormal. Measure and apply extremity splints as directed by nurse or physician. Instruct patient on safe crutch ambulation techniques with return demonstration. Perform oral suctioning. Provide superficial wound care. Perform urethral catheterization (aseptic technique). Prepare sterile tray and apply dressings. Perform phlebotomy. Transport patients, supplies, equipment, and medications using good body mechanics. Monitor patients in restraint/seclusion per policy; document monitoring and notify nurse of abnormal findings. Observe cardiac monitors for arrhythmias, communicate findings to registered nurse, and maintain the monitors. Ensure patient care area is appropriately stocked with supplies. Required Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited program Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor (certification required upon hire unless otherwise stated) Required Minimum Skills Effective communication skills (verbal and written). Proficiency with desktop computer. Willingness to be a team‑player and self‑starter. Proficiency obtaining vital signs using manual processes.
