Endoscopy Center TechnicianJob Objective: Ensure proper care of endoscopy equipment, provides assistance in the procedure room to physicians, patients and nursing staff, prepare and clean roomsScope of responsibility and accountability:Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment in the endoscopy center environmentAssists the physicians as directedMaintains positive working relationships with physicians, manager, and peersFollow infection control standards at all timeSupports the philosophy, goals and objectives of the endoscopy centerPractices cost containment and proper, safe equipment operationMajor activities and essential job functions:Prepare procedure rooms and assists with diagnostic/therapeutic endoscopic proceduresAssists the physician, nurses and CRNA with endoscope proceduresSets up each procedure room prior to procedure and has appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies available to usePrepares specimens for lab and documentsProperly charts interventions completed during procedures utilizing electronic chartingResponsible for care and maintenance of equipment, tests equipment prior to procedure to ensure it is working properly, Reports equipment malfunction to nurse managerProperly cleans and disinfects/sterilizes accessories used during proceduresResponsible for care, maintenance and disinfection of endoscopic washerPrepares appropriate paperwork and endoscopes for repairMaintain equipment recordsMaintains appropriate inventory levels and assists with orderingCleans and restocks rooms and cartsProvides patient care pre and post procedure under the supervision of the registered nurseMay gather initial patient information questions such as current complaint, known allergies, may help patient dress and undress, may take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure), applies pulse oximeter to patient and may monitor pulse and respirations after procedures; assists with patient discharge as directedAdheres to infection control principles and applies universal precautions according to hospital and departmental standardsKeeps nurse manager updated at all timesOrders supplies as neededWill utilize electronic charting throughout patient visitPerforms other miscellaneous duties as assignedPosition Qualifications:Must be 18 years of age or olderHigh School graduate or equivalent G.E.D.Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant or Surgical Technician Program preferredCurrent BLS certificationEffective understanding and use of the English languageMust be flexible with working schedule and have ability to work occasional overtimeWillingness to learn new tasks, be cross-trained in the center and be flexible with work load including assisting co-workersKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Effective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to communicate with diversified levels of patients, staff members, and managementKnowledge of modern office procedures and methods including telephone communication, office systems, and record keepingAbility to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectivesAbility to organize work material and/or charts to ensure accuracy of patient recordsAbility to handle and resolve problemsNeat appearance and a professional demeanorRegulatory requirements/risks/exposures:Works with chemicals including, but not limited to, chlorine bleach, glutaraldehyde and formalinPhysical demand requirement meets those define as HEAVY work, exerting 50 – 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 – 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 1 – 20 pounds of force constantly to move objectsOn-Going job Expectations & Competency:Orient to new procedures and equipmentResponsible for maintaining current BCLSMaintain annual fire safety/general safety trainingMaintain annual OSHA-TBMaintain annual OSHA Blood-borne PathogenMaintain annual PPD skin test or TB Screening FormMust complete annual performance evaluation and return in a timely manner, including competency skills checklistAttends and participated in at least 75% of staff meetings and reviews minutes of those meetings not attendedEqual Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
