Employment Litigation Associate | Hybrid, San Diego | $225,000 to $245,000

The arbitration is in a borrowed conference room on the ninth floor. A court reporter, a box of exhibits, a witness who’s never given evidence before and keeps looking at you for permission to answer, and an arbitrator who sat on the bench for twenty years and still runs the room like a courtroom.

A lot of California employment cases end up in rooms like that now, and this job puts you in them as well as in state and federal court.

The work:

• Discrimination, harassment and wrongful termination claims, in court and in arbitration
• Initial pleadings, and discovery going both ways
• Drafting motions, then standing up and arguing them
• Taking and defending depositions
• Advice for the same employers, so you see what happens before a claim as well as after
• Class action and PAGA work if you’ve done some, and nobody minds if you haven’t

It’s a management side employment team, so the partners down the corridor all do what you do. Hybrid in San Diego, for three to six years in, and a strong litigator from another practice who wants to move into employment is in the frame too.

It pays $225,000 to $245,000.

What you’d need:

• 3 to 6 years of litigation, ideally employment, and the California Bar
• Writing a partner could read without reaching for a pen
