U.S. Director of Medical Affairs (US DMA) - Ophthalmology

Merck seeks an experienced Director of Medical Affairs to lead ophthalmology strategy across U.S. field operations. The role drives scientific excellence, regional implementation of medical affairs plans, and cross-functional collaboration within a remote, leadership position focused on clinical engagement and strategic execution.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement regional medical affairs strategies aligned with headquarters goals and field execution priorities
- Contribute to integrated U.S. country medical affairs plans, field medical plans, and training curricula for assigned therapeutic area
- Design strategic scientific engagement plans and ensure advisory boards, field activities yield actionable insights
- Collaborate with global and cross-functional teams to orchestrate regional training, congresses, and clinical trial support
- Monitor healthcare environment and emerging trends to optimize medical affairs plans and field execution
Requirements
- Advanced degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD) in ophthalmology or related field
- Minimum five years medical affairs experience or equivalent clinical/research background
- Minimum three years working in ophthalmology or highly relevant therapeutic area
- Proven strategic decision-making and complex project leadership abilities
- Strong emotional intelligence and ability to work in matrixed organizations
- AI-first mindset with willingness to adopt new tools and approaches
